Winnie couldn’t help but think about how ridiculous life could be.

Kamila didn’t know that what she had said in Sterling’s office had already reached Winnie. When Winnie looked at her with icy eyes, she felt nervous. “Aunt Winnie, what’s wrong? You’re scaring me.”

Winnie suddenly asked, “Kamila, when did you start liking that brat?”
Kamila froze.
Under Winnie’s intense gaze, she looked away, biting her lip. “When I was 17,” she admitted quietly.
Most boys her age were awkward and clumsy back then, but he was different. Like someone who had stepped out of a dark, frozen night, he seemed cold, dangerous, but also strangely attractive.
Winnie let out a small, bitter laugh. “That early, huh?”
Kamila’s face turned red with guilt and shame. She spoke softly, “Aunt Winnie, I couldn’t control how I feel.”
She had tried to stay away, but Corbin and Julian pushed the chance right back to her. She couldn’t say no.

So this is what it feels like to have no one left. Was Isabella this angry and bitter back then when she lost her parents and husband?
Still, no matter what, she had lived 20 more years than Isabella ever did.
She didn’t regret a thing.
“Is everyone’s birthday this month or something?”
Claudia sat on the carpet, staring at several invitations in front of her.
Besides Donovan’s upcoming birthday party, there were a few others–people trying to get close to Sterling but couldn’t, so they sent the invites to Claudia instead.
Sterling liked to keep a low profile, but with Claudia, he made no effort to hide his feelings.
By now, everyone knew that Claudia was his weakness.
“If you don’t want to go, just ignore it,” Sterling said. He came out of the kitchen holding two glasses of fresh grapefruit juice.
