Chapter 324 Bite the Hand That Feeds Her
Lydia was gambling.
As long as she got married, even if Preston’s mess blew up, she wouldn’t be scared.
She had other ways to keep him in line.

Of course, that was because she still didn’t know Claudia had held back a few things–criminal evidence on her, enough to send her back to prison.
It’s way more fun to drop bombs one at a time.
Lydia’s nerves were frayed; being threatened like this felt awful.
When Claudia let her out of prison back then, had she already pictured Lydia’s situation today?
A thin, floating fear rose in her chest, like she had nowhere to plant her feet.
She stayed silent too long, and William rapped his knuckles on the desk, out of patience.
Lydia stared him down. “Deal. But I can’t even find him right now. How am I supposed to marry him?”
Sylvia had him on lockdown, and on top of that, Zoey’s scheme getting exposed had landed like another hammer blow on a man already drowning in regret. Lydia was in full hard–mode
now.
William’s mouth crooked; his eyes lit like he’d bought front–row tickets. “Don’t worry about that. I can point you to a way. In a few days, there’s a yacht party. Jasper’s mother pulled strings for an invitation–wants him to work the room. You can see him there.”
Lydia opened her mouth to say something.
William beat her to it. “The invite is on you. If you can’t even get through the door, Ms. Wallace, I’ll have to question your competence.”
Lydia’s face went cold,
At the hospital.
Lottie opened her eyes and looked at Clarence, who had just ended a call by the window. “Has Claudia come by?”

She’d been weak for a while, her spirits poor, resting in the hospital.
Every day when she woke up, she’d ask the same question.

After being disappointed over and over, and when Clarence shook his head yet again, Lottie wasn’t even fazed anymore.
She was quiet for a moment, then asked, “How’s Lydia?”
Clarence walked over and poured her a glass of water. “Nothing much. Word is she checked out yesterday, dolled up to the nines.”
His tone was cutting.
After dragging the family through this much trouble, she was the one living carefree.
Lottie pressed her lips together. “I’m going home today. Call her and Zane back. We need to sit down and talk.”
Clarence accepted the order.
The stabbing still wasn’t resolved; letting Lottie talk to Lydia wasn’t a bad idea.
That night, the Lancasters‘ five finally gathered under one roof again.
It wasn’t the old scene of harmony and laughter. The air was frozen solid.
Wilson and Lottie had never imagined the girl they’d loved from childhood–Lydia—would bite the hand that fed her.
Facing Lydia, pressing hard and demanding money, Wilson couldn’t make sense of it. “We raised you, paid for your schooling, your dance. Your life is a thousand times better than it used to be. Now that the family’s in trouble, and you’ve got the nerve to kick us while we’re down?”
Lydia couldn’t care less about their anger. “That’s on you for being stupid. Same as I said: either pay me, or do time.”
Wilson’s eyes bulged; his chest heaved.
