Chapter 346 Peaceful Morning
They had already been lucky to catch a few songs.
Sterling pinched Claudia’s earlobe lightly. “Who said he was the one playing?”
Claudia blinked in surprise. “Wait, you can play the cello?”
Sterling’s lips curved into a faint smile as he patted her head. “Wait here.”

Claudia tightened her shawl and leaned against the railing, watching as Sterling walked over to the cellist. The two exchanged a few quiet words, and Sterling pointed in her direction.
The man’s face first showed shock, then turned into an amused grin before he nodded and left with everything except his cello.
Claudia could not help but smile, her eyes curving as she watched Sterling walk back toward her with the instrument in hand.
The melody resumed, only now the performer was not a romantic musician, but Claudia’s own private cellist.
They were the only two people left on deck. The sea stretched endlessly around them, and above, the colors of dawn painted the sky in soft hues, creating the illusion that they were the only souls in the world. The wind brushed gently past them, and the golden morning light fell tenderly over the lovers.
Sterling’s first few notes were a little rough, but soon his rhythm steadied.
Isabella was the one who taught him to play the cello.
When she was well enough, she would teach her son to play the instrument she had loved so much.
After her passing, the cello became something untouchable in their family home–Quinton had forbidden anyone from playing it again.
Most of the younger generation turned to piano, harp, or violin.
Sterling only picked the cello back up much later and rarely played it since.
The instrument Isabella had once cherished had been brought back by Claudia, who carefully preserved it with him.

To be fair, Sterling’s technique was not perfect, but to Claudia, every note sounded just right.
She sat quietly through the first piece, then, as he began another, she smiled, took off her shawl, and stepped gracefully into the middle of the deck.
As the sun broke through the clouds, warm gold light spilled across the sea. The sky glowed with soft pinks, oranges, and golds.
