As he scrambled to help Quinton back into the car, he cautiously asked, “Sir, should we head to the hospital?”

However, Quinton suddenly asked something completely unrelated. “Have you ever seen Sterling when he was a kid?”

The house staff froze and scratched his head awkwardly. “Uh, no, sir. I came to work for the family later on.”

By then, Sterling was already an adult. The house staff only knew that father and son did not get along–but as for why, or what Sterling’s childhood had been like, he had no idea.

Quinton closed his eyes and turned away. “Forget it. Don’t go to the hospital. Take me home.” From an angle no one noticed, two silent tears rolled down his weathered face–no one could tell whether they came from pain, regret, or something else entirely.

Inside the villa, the spinning top game was long forgotten. Sterling lifted Claudia into his arms and sat her sideways on his lap, kissing her face again and again.

Her tears had dried up, and now she was giggling and squirming in his hold, trying to escape his playful kisses.

“Sterling, stop copying Daron!”

Was he trying to wash her face or something?

Seeing her cheerful again, Sterling chuckled. “It’s Daron copying me. Did you sneak a kiss from him again? Didn’t my baby promise to only kiss me from now on?”

He lowered his head and gently bit her collarbone, his teeth teasing the skin before softly brushing over it with his tongue.

Claudia melted in his arms, her voice turning sweet and breathy. “I didn’t kiss his mouth, and I just hugged him.”

Then she cupped his face and leaned in, planting two light kisses on his lips like a playful pup. “I love Sterling the most.”

Warmth filled Sterling’s chest completely, overflowing. “I know,” he murmured, voice low and rough with emotion.

He buried his face in her neck, breathing in her scent. “Baby, thank you for loving me.”

As if sensing his thoughts, Claudia tugged on his hair, making him lift his head before pulling him into a deep, steady kiss.

“I’m not going anywhere,” she whispered against his lips. “Sterling, from now on, we have a home.”

Sterling froze for a heartbeat, then tightened his hold around her waist, his other hand cupping the back of her head as he kissed her back harder–like he wanted to fuse her into his very soul.

On the couch, the two figures slowly leaned back, melting into each other.

Back at the Lloyd Residence, everyone was too busy worrying about Kamila to notice that a greater storm was already on its way.

Never mind Sterling’s long–standing grudge against Winnie and the Lloydss–for Kamila alone, the moment he learned she had tried to use hired kidnappers to get rid of Claudia, he would never let her go easily.

What happened that night could still be dismissed as an accident. But who could say she would not try something worse next time?

Still, Clint and David had not actually harmed her. They had simply made her sit in on their interrogation of the kidnappers–a bloody, brutal scene.
