Chapter 365 Pure Torture
Chapter 365 Pure Torture
Claudia went quiet for a bit.
Because she hung out with Whitney a lot, she often dropped by the Sawyers. Whitney’s stepmother, Kevin’s so–called “first love“, truly knew how to work him. Just a few sweet words, and he’d be melting in seconds.
After seeing those two act out their dramatic middle–aged love story every day, Claudia totally got why Whitney was so disgusted.
“Keep your guard up,” Claudia warned. “If they come at you directly, that’s fine. It’s the sneaky stuff that gets ugly.”
Whitney waved it off like it was nothing. “Don’t worry about me. Once I’ve got all the shares, I’ll pack my dad off to a nursing home. If my stepmom and her son truly care about him, they can tag along.”
Besides, her bond with Claudia was her best protection.
Her stepmother and stepbrother probably knew it, which was why they switched tricks.
Claudia nodded. “If you need help, just say it.”
Whitney grinned. “Come on, you know I’m not gonna get all formal with you.”
Right as Claudia finished the last stroke of her painting, someone knocked.
Outside the studio, Sterling had just finished cooking and came to call them down to eat.
Whitney stretched and rolled her neck. “I’ll pass. Got a meeting with a client later. Oh, and save that last painting for me.”
“Sure,” Claudia said. “I’ll frame it for you.”
Downstairs, Whitney saw a table full of delicious food, clearly meant for three.
Sterling had always felt a bit jealous of Whitney. But since Claudia valued her, he never treated Whitney badly. He’d grumble about Whitney taking up too much of Claudia’s time, yet every time she dropped by, he still made sure they had their space. At the table, he acted like Whitney was part of the family.
Whitney smiled, satisfied.

Chapter 365 Pure Torture
People might call Sterling scary. But when it came to Claudia, he was just softhearted.

Compared to Jasper, who always ended up being yelled at by Whitney, Sterling was pretty
decent.
As she stepped out the front door, Whitney glanced back through the big window.
Now that Whitney had skipped dinner, Sterling and Claudia were alone. He scooped her up, set her on his lap, and peeled shrimp for her like it was second nature.
Claudia also looked super at ease, letting him feed her happily.
The atmosphere was so sweet that it could make anyone watching smile.
Whitney shook her head. The Lancasters truly missed out.
They had lost an incredible daughter, and they didn’t even get to enjoy having such a good son–in–law.
Sterling cared so much about Claudia that he was even kind to her best friend. If the Lancasters hadn’t messed things up, they’d be living comfortably by now.
The Lancasters, whom Whitney had just called out for being blind, were completely screwed.
Once they went bankrupt, the gossip and betrayal from others didn’t even matter anymore. The real problem was their massive debt.
They’d thought selling a patent would help, but Lydia ruined that plan as well.
Since they were once Claudia’s family, Sterling didn’t want to crush them entirely.
The creditors got the hint. They didn’t treat the Lancasters well, but at least they didn’t go too far.
Even so, the debt was huge, and the family would be paying it off for years.
For people used to living the good life, it was pure torture.
Lottie kept getting hit with bad news. Her health fell apart, and she had to take medicine every day.
Wilson was getting old, but he still had to start over from zero.
