After Fiona left, the hotel staff member Simon had knocked out and locked in the bathroom was quietly removed. Simon sat still, forcing himself to resist the crawling itch beneath his skin, like ants gnawing at every nerve. He didn’t ask Sterling for help.
“Your luck has always been better than mine,” Simon rasped, voice dry and bitter.
Sterling’s eyes, cold as winter frost, locked on him without mercy. “You should’ve never set your sights on Claudia.”
Simon shook his head slowly. “She was the only way I had left to beat you. If you were me, wouldn’t you have done the same?”
If the yacht kidnapping had succeeded, he wouldn’t have had to stoop this low.
Sterling let out a quiet, mocking laugh. “No,” he said flatly.
He wasn’t a man known for morals or restraint, but even he had limits. He’d never stoop so low as to exploit a woman’s body to win.
Simon froze for a second, then lowered his head and chuckled quietly. “I lost,” he said.
From the moment he woke up in that strange room and realized he’d been drugged, he knew it was over. The trap had snapped shut. He’d been played, and there was no escape.
He’d been outmatched. Simple as that.
When Sterling took Claudia’s hand and started to walk away, Claudia couldn’t help but pause, turning her head back. “Oh, and Simon, you didn’t really think you were some tragic romantic hero, did you?” she said, her voice sharp.
She remembered the way he’d acted earlier, so full of restraint, looking tortured and noble, like he was making some great sacrifice. Like Sterling was the villain for tearing apart a doomed love story. The thought made her scoff.
“You think you were being some kind of saint? Holding yourself back from touching the drugged–up woman you locked in a room? Taking the fall to protect Tammy’s dignity? Breaking it off yourself so the Fergusons wouldn’t be dragged down with you? What did you
you noble?”

Simon said nothing, just stared at her with tightly pressed lips.
Claudia wasn’t finished. “If you really loved her, you would’ve either never involved her in the

first place, or you would’ve let go of your delusions for her. You hijacked her engagement party to play your game. You went after me not because of love or justice, but because it was the only shot you had left. If it had worked, her wedding would’ve been destroyed by scandal. And if it didn’t… well, here we are. You were willing to gamble with her life, her name, her future, because your ambition mattered more than her. Let’s be honest, Simon, whatever love you had for her was nothing compared to your need for power. Even now, the only reason you kept your hands off anyone is because you didn’t want to be caught looking pathetic, not because you cared. You’re not just a terrible leader than Sterling. You’re a horrible man, too. Simon, you’re trash.”
The engagement party had ended in chaos–starting in grand, finishing it hollow.
Donovan stood in the empty hall, eyes closed against the weight of exhaustion. “Can you let Simon go?” he asked quietly.
Sterling stood beside him, calm and composed. “If his plan had worked today, what do you think would’ve happened?” he said evenly.
Donovan had no answer.
“He’s Uncle Leon’s only bloodline,” Donovan finally murmured.
Sterling turned slightly, his voice still steady. “Grandpa, do you really think he’ll ever give up completely?”
Again, Donovan couldn’t reply.
Because deep down, he knew the truth. No, he wouldn’t.
