Yvonne stayed quiet for a long time before finally asking, “Why did you help them?”

Even though Claudia could have gotten out of that room on her own, Fiona had still chosen to bring the key over herself. That was a choice.
As for Sterling, Yvonne didn’t think Fiona owed anyone her loyalty.
“I told you, it wasn’t for them.”
Yvonne thought for a moment and quickly guessed, “Frederick?”
Fiona didn’t answer.
Yvonne just couldn’t wrap her head around it. “You never liked Frederick. You always used his very existence to stir up trouble for the Romeros. You should be happy about this.”
Fiona’s voice stayed calm. “It’s true, I don’t love him. But I made him a promise. He never wanted to get dragged into the Romeros‘ mess.”
Before coming back to the Romeros, she had asked Frederick if he wanted to fight for anything.
He said no.
Fiona might not be a great mother, and she wasn’t about to start scheming for him, but she could at least keep her word.
Besides, whether Sterling or Simon came out on top, it made no difference to her.
No matter who won, Donovan’s final days would be anything but peaceful.
She looked at Yvonne, a faint trace of regret in her eyes. “It’s a shame you didn’t win a second time.”
Yvonne smiled. “A bet’s a bet. I lost.”
Fiona nodded. “That’s true.”
She looked at her again. “So, goodbye?”
“Goodbye.”

Yvonne watched as Fiona turned and walked away. At the end of the hallway, Waylon was waiting for her, a shawl draped over his arm.
A wave of melancholy washed over Yvonne.
That farewell years ago hadn’t been the end of their story.
Now, they had both gotten what they wanted. Fiona had witnessed the Romeros face their retribution, and Yvonne had followed her heart and given it her all. Losing wasn’t a surprise.
But she really had won once.
Before all the chaos, back when Romeros‘ world was still calm.
That first step had been so hard, but she had made it. Still, she had always fallen just a little short.
And because she was always just a little short, she could never let it go.
When Yvonne married Leon, he thought it was just a typical arranged marriage. But for Yvonne, it was marrying for love.
He never knew how much effort it had taken for her to stand in front of him.
Unlike Winnie and the Lloyd family, Yvonne came from a house full of daughters and weak family ties. She was the daughter of a mother who had died young, and no one had cared about her.
She went from being a forgotten nobody to the wife of the Romeros‘ heir. She had beaten out all her sisters and every socialite in Liberty City.
But unlike Winnie, who had been a fool for love, Yvonne understood how fleeting and fragile love could be.
She liked Leon, but she was content with their polite, respectful marriage.
No matter what, she had married the man she wanted, and she had earned the title of Mrs. Romero. One day, she would be the only Mrs. Romero.
She had always pushed herself to be perfect–first to survive in her own family, then to be the perfect wife once Leon officially took over the Romeros.
