Claudia was hiding someone.

She hadn’t meant to. She was forced to do so.

If she had to describe how she felt now in one word, it would be regret–serious regret.

After a fight with her family, she stormed out for some air and ended up wandering down a narrow alley, where she saw a man covered in blood.

Every movie she’d ever seen told her she shouldn’t just pick up random guys off the street.

So she immediately turned to leave.

But he moved faster than she did. The next thing she knew, he had grabbed her ankle and fished out her ID and student card. Just like that, Claudia was stuck with him.

She had no choice but to get him a room and buy some bandages and medicine for his injuries.

When she finally wiped the blood off his face, she realized this “bad guy” was actually a handsome young man, maybe just a few years older than her.

“I’m going home.” She tried to hide her surprise and kept her expression cold.

Sterling played with her student card and snorted. “So that’s it? You save someone and just leave halfway?”

She puffed up her cheeks. “I didn’t want to save you.”

“But if I go out and my enemies find out you’re the one who helped me, they’ll think you’re on my side.” His tone was lazy, almost carefree.

Claudia froze, staring at him as if to say, How could you be this ungrateful?

“So what am I supposed to do now?”

Sterling grinned and glanced at her student card on the bed. “Claudia, looks like you’ll have to hide me.”

Claudia rented a run–down one–bedroom apartment in the old part of town, keeping it secre from everyone.

The place was so cramped it was hard to turn around.

Sterling wrinkled his nose, looking annoyed. “You expect me to live here?”

Still upset, Claudia answered with a blank face, “Did it ever occur to you that I’m only 16 and completely broke?”

Since Sterling was being hunted, he couldn’t use his bank cards for a while. Claudia had to us her own secret stash to rent the place.

It broke her heart.

Sterling was surprised as he looked at her.

He recognized her school uniform–it was from an elite school. If she went to a school like that, he figured her family couldn’t be struggling with money.

But he could tell she was serious. Thinking it over, he flicked her forehead. “Forget it. This place isn’t so bad.”

Claudia covered her head and grumbled, mimicking him in a small voice, “Yeah, not so bad, huh.”

Sterling pinched her soft cheeks. “Claudia, are you mocking me in your head?”

She kept her mouth shut, staring at him with big innocent eyes, and shook her head.

He raised an eyebrow, seeing right through her, but he didn’t push it and just let her go.

“How much did you spend? I’ll pay you back a hundred times when this is over.” He was only hiding out for now–he wasn’t actually broke.
