Chapter 50 A Dangerous Beast

Dressed in black casual clothes, Sterling sat calmly at the dining table, his long fingers toying with the cake. Even when someone barged into the apartment, his eyebrows didn’t twitch. He gave off the air of a man completely in control, confident and commanding.

When Jasper saw his face, his pupils shrank.

It was him?!

Mr. Romero stood as the sole heir of the Romeros. Always mysterious. Jasper had only caught a distant glimpse of him once at a party.

His sharp looks and powerful presence left a deep impression.

The man was known for his ruthless ways and immense influence, but Jasper feared something elsethe dark underworld behind him and the blood on his hands.

What is such a dangerous man doing in Claudia’s home?

His thoughts spun wildly, yet his body moved on its own, stepping in front of Claudia, standing guard.

The two men locked eyes across the room. The air grew tense.

Sterling’s face was blank, but when he saw Claudia hidden behind Jasper, his brows pulled together, a flicker of annoyance showing at the corner of his eyes.

Come blow the candles,he said.

He waved his hand, ignoring Jasper’s tall frame as if he didn’t exist. He repeated his words toward Claudia.

He didn’t even look at Jasper, yet his dismissive attitude made Jasper feel as if he were nothing more than an insect.

made Jasper’s whole body tense with discomfort.

But what hurt more was the moment he felt Claudia slip past him, walking straight toward the other man.

She even complained in a familiar tone, Why didn’t you wait for me before lighting the candles? Now the wax is dripping on the cake.

Sterling chuckled, slipped an arm around her waist, and led her to the table. Standing up, height difference made it look like he was wrapping her completely in his arms.

I’ll eat the messy part,he said lightly, then urged, Make a wish first.

Claudia had grown used to his closeness. She didn’t resist anymore.

The two ignored Jasper. They looked like a couple lost in their world.

Jasper’s face burned red, his eyes filled with fire.

Claudia!he shouted.

The man who had been smiling at her suddenly turned his head. His blue eyes, cold and sharp with danger, locked onto Jasper.

The look froze him in place, like prey caught in a predator’s sight.

Under Sterling’s heavy presence, Claudia calmly made her wish.`

She puffed her cheeks and blew out the candles in one breath.

The cake smelled rich and sweet. The scent grew stronger as Claudia leaned closer. Her eyes sparkled with genuine joy.

But to Jasper, every quiet second was torture.

Sterling stayed close behind her, like a beast guarding his treasure, warning everyone else to stay away.

Jasper could only watch helplessly as the two of them whispered suggestively and their bodies pressed intimately against each other.

And it was then, standing on the outside, that he began to notice the details he had tried to ignore.

Sterling wore a pair of halfworn men’s slippers.

He was obsessed with cleanliness; there was no way he’d wear someone else’s old shoes. They had to be his own, already broken in at this house.
