Chapter 52 The Choice
Sterling was burning with anger.
Hearing the same words again and again only made him replay the scene in his head, tearing Jasper apart a thousand times over.
Sterling didn’t hold back. Jasper was genuinely injured.
But Jasper wasn’t afraid. Instead, his eyes locked on Claudia, bright with hope.
“See? I told you he’s violent and unpredictable. Stay with him, and who knows? You might be the next one to get hurt. Claudia, leave him.”
Sterling’s face turned dark, as if death itself had walked in.
That annoying fly–he should drag him out and let the snakes finish the job. Better yet, rip out that slick tongue of his and grind it to pieces.
Real killing intent flashed in his eyes.
Just then, Claudia, who had kept quiet all this time, finally moved.
She frowned and turned her back to Sterling. She slowly walked toward Jasper lying on the ground.

He looked at her with desperate hope and played the victim. “Claudia, I’m in pain.”
It wasn’t a lie–blood dripped from the corner of his mouth.
Sterling’s fists tightened.
That scheming jerk!
Right when Claudia was about to reach Jasper, Sterling finally spoke, his voice rough, “Claudia, the chicken soup’s getting cold.”
It sounded calm, but there was tension and a hint of defeat underneath..
Claudia didn’t stop. She kept walking toward Jasper.
Sterling’s eyes grew darker, his face stormy.
In those last few steps, both men held their breath.

Jasper thought he was about to win her back.
Sterling’s gaze was terrifying–God only knew what he was planning.
But then Claudia suddenly stopped. She turned, bent down, and picked something up by the shelf.
Jasper froze. He couldn’t believe it. In Jasper’s stunned eyes, she bent down–not to help him, but to pick up a little wooden ortune gnome that had fallen by the shelf. She blew the dust off gently.

you a hundred,” he said with an easy smile, as if it was a different man who wanted to someone just moments ago.
Jasper’s face, on the other hand, turned ashen.
He muttered, lips trembling, unable to believe she cared more about a fortune gnome than him.
How could she speak to Sterling so gently, almost playfully, after watching his outburst?
It isn’t how it’s supposed to be.
Jealousy gnawed at his chest.
“Claudia,” he tried again, desperate to shatter the mood. “I’m hurt.”
Back then, when he got hurt, she was always the first to run to him.
He remembered one time in college–during a basketball game, players from another school ganged up on him, and he twisted his ankle. Claudia was so furious she almost jumped in to fight them herself.
She used to get angry, upset, and protective. Not this cold indifference.
Jasper couldn’t stand it.
Claudia carefully set the fortune gnome back in place. She looked at him with a calm, flat gaze.
