Chapter 68 Are You Serious About Her?
Finished
Claudia backed Sterling all the way, snapping at anyone who dared challenge him like a guard dog on edge. People figured life with those two must feel like being smothered.
When they thought of the ladies who’d left earlier, plenty muttered that Sterling had lost his head over lust.
Sure, Claudia was gorgeous, but he lost his mind over her.
Still, she was nothing more than a washed–up heiress no one cared about. How could she ever compete with the polished socialites they’d picked out for him?
Most of them didn’t actually think Sterling would marry someone without a background and power, just someone with a pretty face.
The Romero family only cared about money first. They were cold to the core.
Some chased after love, but it never ended well for them.
Sterling’s parents were the perfect example.
Everyone else just waited, expecting some big drama.
Claudia didn’t care about the gossip at all. She was too busy eating and drinking, stuffing herself full. She needed the energy for what was coming tonight.
She had to save up some strength.
After lunch, Donovan called Sterling into the study.
Claudia stayed on the couch alone, snacking on fruit.
With her fighting spirit and Sterling clearly favoring her, nobody wanted to pick a fight–at least for now.
If they couldn’t challenge her, they just ignored her. That gave the living room a weird, cold vibe.
The Romero family clustered together, chatting, playing cards, or gaming—while Claudia sat completely alone.
Claudia didn’t mind the quiet, but Yvonne clearly couldn’t stand seeing her left out. She shot the others a warning look, then smiled at Claudia.
“Claudia, if you’re bored, come play cards with us. We’re one player short.”

Claudia glanced at the table and saw two others sitting there.
One was Macy, Sterling’s eldest aunt, who shared both parents with Quinton.
Macy looked indifferent–neither welcoming nor unfriendly. She’d been cold and uninterested ever since Claudia arrived.
The other was Hailey, with long, captivating eyes. Right now, her lips were turned down, looking annoyed. But she kept her thoughts to herself, holding back any sharp words.
Claudia didn’t waste time guessing what they were thinking. Sterling had already told her she didn’t need to win anyone over.
Yvonne, though, was the only person who had made an effort to reach out.
So, Claudia smiled politely and shook her head. “Thanks, but I don’t know how to play cards. I wouldn’t want to mess up your game.”
“Pfft, stop pretending.”
A teenage boy, maybe 17 or 18, spoke from the other end of the couch. He was completely focused on his game.
Claudia didn’t know him–Sterling hadn’t introduced him.
He stared at his screen, fingers moving fast over the controller, expression unreadable. She wondered if he’d said anything at all.
Claudia didn’t care whether he was talking about her or Hailey. She glanced once, then put her headphones back on.
Yvonne just smiled and let it go. She called Khloe, who had just come in from outside, to join the card game, and had the maid bring Claudia another plate of fruit.
