Chapter 74 What Are You Whispering About?

Every time Jasper tried to guess, it felt like his chest was being torn apart.

He hadn’t told anyone about Sterling yet. But after today, he would officially be her fiancé.

“But-”

Lydia didn’t get to finish before Jasper interrupted. “I’ll just say she’s sick today and couldn’t come. The invitations went out, so we’re not changing the date. With our relationship, nobody will question it. Everything will be fine.”

He spoke quickly, trying to convince others and himself.

Lydia watched him stride into the venue, her smile fading. She stared at his back expressionlessly.

She’d already given him a chance. They were the ones who pushed her.

“Lydia …” Zane came over, trying to find out about Claudia. He froze at her icy glare, but she switched to a smile so fast that he thought he’d imagined it.

Rubbing his eyes, he forgot her strange look instantly.

“She’s still not here, huh?”

Lydia forced a bitter smile. “A lot has happened lately. Maybe Claudia is just trying to get back

at us.”

Zane snapped, “Get back at us? She burned the house, hit people, yelled at Mom and Dad—and she still blames everyone else?”

“Zane, don’t say that. She’s still your sister.”

“I don’t have a sister like that. She’s a disgrace,” he said, annoyed. “She’s just trouble!”

Claudia used to throw fits because they wouldn’t throw her birthday parties. Now that they were hosting this huge event, she acted all high and mighty.

Whatever–he’d just toss her gift in the trash later.

No one in the Lancaster family argued with Zane’s anger.

Just as they were about to go inside and deal with Claudia’s mess, a clear voice called out.

“My lovely sister and brother, what are you whispering about behind my back?”

“Claudia!” Lottie’s face lit up instantly.

The party was held outdoors, in the villa’s backyard.

Tonight, Claudia wore a soft white dress that shimmered like moonlight. Moving among the flowers and trees, she looked so stunning that it almost seemed unreal.

Her chin was lifted, eyes bright, making her gorgeous face even more striking and full of life.

Lottic couldn’t help smiling. That was her daughter.

None of the other socialites there could even come close to Claudia’s beauty.

What made Lottie happiest, though, was that Claudia actually showed up. If she was willing to attend the party the family threw, maybe she was finally ready to make peace.

She had completely forgotten about threatening Claudia earlier.

Wilson’s face softened as well. “Alright, since you’re here, let’s head in. Don’t keep the guests waiting.”
