Chapter 96 Seventeen Cakes
Claudia had already beaten Quade once before. Because Mandy stepped in to protect him and Sterling had warned them, the Zimmers held back their
anger.
But now, with Lydia sending Quade into the ER after another attack, the Zimmers couldn’t tolerate it any longer. Quade was Walter’s beloved grandson. Even if they had given up on him, they wouldn’t just watch the Lancasters run over them like this.
This time, the Zimmers would not let it go.
No one knows you better than your enemies.
Lydia had counted on Claudia’s pride and self–respect. But Claudia had already seen through Lydia’s jealousy and ambition.
Long ago, she’d told Sterling to keep people watching Lydia.
Dog–eat–dog. It was easier to sit back and let them tear at each other.
But Sterling had executed the plan even more flawlessly than Claudia had expected.
Lydia still had no idea more trouble was waiting for her. All her chaotic thoughts froze the instant she saw Claudia.
The one who had been cherished and the one who had been left at the graveyard had switched places. She was the one left in disgrace now.
Wilson and Clarence saw Lottie and the others and frowned hard.
From the look of it, Clint had dragged them here by force. Lydia hadn’t even changed her clothes.
Some guests whispered as they glanced at the two leading ladies of tonight’s scandals.
In one evening, Lydia’s perfect image had been ripped to shreds. What a huge amusement!
Wilson couldn’t lash out at Sterling, so he kept his face grim and asked Clint, “Clint, this is the Lancaster Residence. Don’t you think you’ve gone too far?”
Clint answered with a straight face, “Ah, my apologies. Mrs. Lancaster was so eager to celebrate Ms. Claudia’s birthday that we ended up rushing over.”
Wilson’s chest heaved with anger.
What could he say? He couldn’t deny that Lottie didn’t care about Claudia at all.

Sterling tapped his fingers on the table with a smirk. “All right then. Since everyone’s here, let’s begin.”
At his order, Clint had chairs brought over for each of the Lancasters and set right in the middle.
Tonight’s party had been arranged so guests could stroll and mingle around the lawn, with only a few rest areas provided.
Now, with the Lancasters seated in the center while everyone else stood, they looked out of place, uneasy, and deeply humiliated.
Lottie kept glancing at Claudia, but this ungrateful daughter didn’t react.
Just as Sterling had let her wreak havoc at the Romero Manor, she now let Sterling do as he pleased at the Lancaster Residence.
Wilson couldn’t take it anymore. He stood abruptly. “I’ll have the birthday cake brought out.”
“Mr. Lancaster,” Sterling’s voice was low, his expression cold. “Better not bring out the cake that was meant for your adopted daughter’s engagement. There’s no need to insult anyone by bringing it here.”
Wilson froze in place, his face flushing deep red.
“We’ve already prepared a cake,” Clint chimed in cheerfully. “You don’t have to worry about it, Mr. Lancaster.”
With a clap of his hands, a group of smiling staff pushed in flower carts carrying cakes that looked exquisite beyond comparison.
“Wait a second,” someone murmured as they watched cart after cart roll in. “Isn’t there supposed to be just one cake?”
“One, two, three, four … “Soon the carts formed a circle around the Lancasters‘ chairs.
A curious guest had already counted. “Seventeen. But why 17?”
The crowd buzzed with speculation. Only the Lancasters, trapped inside that circle of cakes, sat pale and stricken.
Why 17?
