Shattered Then Healed By His Love (by Haley Blanton) novel Chapter 180

Chapter 180 A Brother’s Warning

“He couldn’t be interrogated here. I’ve had him sent back to Brookvale. We’ll deal with him there,” Marcus said, his voice flat, his expression unreadable.

“Are you saying he followed me all the way from Brookvale?”

“Yes,” he said simply.

The confirmation sent a chill through her. Who wanted her dead?

“Why did you come to find him, Natalie?” Marcus’s gaze shifted past her, toward the villa in the distance. He didn’t say the name, but she knew he was talking about Noah. She couldn’t tell him she was here for the emerald, that she was trying to fix his pendant.

“I just haven’t been here in a long time,” she lied. “I wanted to see it again.”

“And you’re still trying to tell me there’s nothing between you?” He caught her chin, his fingers tilting her face up to his. “Are you refusing to be with me because of him?”

Her eyelashes fluttered, a clear sign of her nervousness.

Seeing it, his expression darkened. “Why so tense all of a sudden? Did I hit a nerve?”

She was tense because he was too close, because the air between them was thick with a dangerous intimacy.

“It’s late,” she said, trying to push him away. “You should go home and rest. I’ll be waiting for you tomorrow morning.”

He didn’t budge. But her excuse to leave–her promise to wait for him—seemed to placate him slightly. He let her go.

Back at the villa, Natalie found Noah coming out of his room.

“There you are,” he said, a look of surprise on his face. “I called for you, but you didn’t answer. I was starting to think you had gone out.”
