Octavia could only glare daggers at Hester Sutton, seething with anger but powerless to do anything.
If looks could kill, Hester would have been left in shreds by now.
Just then, a nurse pushed a cart of medication into the room.
“Ms. Sutton, you’re so devoted—here so early to take care of your grandmother,” the nurse remarked, hanging up an IV bag for the morning drip.
“I’m just doing what I should. Is she getting her medication now?” Hester replied, her voice all sweetness and light, the perfect picture of a dutiful granddaughter in front of outsiders.
“That’s right, I’ll set up the drip right away.”
“Thank you, Doctor,” Hester said politely.
The nurse seemed quite taken with Hester’s manners and humility.
Meanwhile, the scandalous video of Hester circulating online had been heavily censored. Desmond Sutton had spent several days handling the fallout, managing to suppress the controversy almost completely. As a result, most people never saw the footage, and rumors about Hester gradually faded, thanks to the Sutton family’s diligent PR efforts.
Just then, Stella Walker arrived at the hospital room. She was a little surprised to find only Hester and a nurse there. Hadn’t Sabrina said Desmond was looking after Octavia?
Stella hurried over to check on Octavia. There was nothing alarming—just a slightly elevated heart rate.
Seeing Stella arrive, Hester immediately seized the opportunity. “Sabrina sent you, didn’t she? I’ll go upstairs to check on my mom, so you stay here with Grandma.” Her tone was bossy, as if she had every right to delegate tasks to someone she barely knew.
Stella couldn’t help but marvel at her nerve. It was obvious Hester wanted to distance herself, eager for an excuse to leave.
