Sunny stopped by the home goods section at the mall after work, scanning the aisles as she considered replacing the curtains in Stellan's villa.
Stellan was out for a business dinner that evening when her message buzzed on his phone.
*What do you think of these sheer curtains with a creamy beige lining?*
His home was furnished almost entirely in somber tones—deep grays, nearly black everywhere you looked.
He figured most women would probably find the place too dark and heavy.
So, without a moment's hesitation, he shot back his reply:
*Looks great. When it comes to decorating, the lady of the house makes the rules.*
Sunny's pale cheeks flushed with a hint of pink.
*Alright, I'll take care of it then.*
She didn't stop at curtains—soon her cart was full of things: rugs, sofa cushions, placemats, and fresh bedding for the bedrooms.
She quickly arranged for everything to be installed the next day.
*Stellan, the installers will come by tomorrow. Here's their contact info—could you let your housekeeper know?*
His response came quickly: a string of numbers for the front door code, and a phone number.
*Just reach out to my house manager. Whatever you need in the future, he'll handle it.*
Sunny stared at the message for a second.
*Okay, will do.*
She left it at that.

The next day, Xander had other business, so Sunny headed to VeriTrust Electronics alone.
Sunny frowned. "But we had an appointment scheduled."
The assistant gave a little laugh. "You have to understand, Attorney Carrington—Manager Williams's schedule is always packed."
Sunny took a deep breath and sat back down, deciding to give it another thirty minutes. If she still didn't get a response, she'd walk out. After all, this risk had been uncovered during her due diligence; it was up to VeriTrust to provide explanations. If they refused to cooperate, she'd have to report that back to Lawson.
Right on cue, thirty minutes later, Manager Williams finally strolled in.
Sunny stood to greet the impeccably dressed woman, giving her a polite nod. "Manager Williams, I'm Sunny Carrington, the attorney handling Lawson Corporation's potential acquisition."
"Attorney Carrington, hello! I'm so sorry, this morning's been absolutely crazy."
Sunny didn't bother dwelling on the hour and a half she'd been left waiting. She went straight to the point.
"Manager Williams, could you share the expected ruling date on this pending lawsuit, and what your legal team estimates your chances of winning are?"
Williams smiled, her tone light. "Oh, Attorney Carrington, surely you lawyers know better than anyone how tight-lipped we're supposed to be. As for winning or losing—well, in our minds, there's no question. We're confident we'll come out on top."
