Stand Me Up? I'll Marry His Billionaire Uncle novel Chapter 20

The first thing that cemented Sunny's resolve to break up with Tristan was simple enough.

The second was signing the final check and buying the tiny apartment she'd been living in—all in her name now.

It had taken every penny she'd saved in the three years since graduation.

Holding the deed in her hands, Sunny felt as if she'd been reborn.

Since it was still early, she made her way straight to Carrington Technologies to confront her father.

The receptionist at Carrington Technologies didn't recognize her. Aside from Sean's assistant and maybe one or two secretaries, almost no one in the company had ever seen the Carrington family's eldest daughter.

"Hi, I'd like to see Mr. Carrington."

The receptionist barely glanced at her, her tone cool. "Do you have an appointment? Without one, you won't be seeing Mr. Carrington."

"Could you please tell Assistant Williams that Sunny is here? He'll know who I am and let me up."

The receptionist gave a quiet, derisive snort, muttering to her coworker, "Here we go again—another one pretending to have connections."

"Sorry, Assistant Williams is out on leave today. Maybe you should come back another time, ma'am."

Sunny rarely visited Carrington Technologies, but even so, the receptionist's dismissive attitude stung a little.

"Fine. Wait here—I'll make a call."

Expression stony, Sunny dialed Grace Quinn. "Ms. Quinn, I'm in the lobby at Carrington Technologies. Could you let the front desk know I need to go up and see my dad?"

Grace sounded surprised. "Sunny, didn't you tell them your name at reception?"

"Hang on. Hand them the phone—I'll explain. Sorry about this, it's probably a new hire. Not knowing your name is understandable."

"Sunny, what brings you here?"

Sunny took a deep breath and closed the door behind her with a smile.

"Dad, I need to talk to you about something."

Sean's brow furrowed. He didn't like his daughter showing up at work.

"Can't this wait until we're home?"

Sunny ignored his tone, pulled out the chair across from him, and sat down. "I think this is better discussed here at the office."

Sean set his pen aside, face growing serious as he looked at her. "All right. What is it?"

"I've broken up with Tristan. Dad, you'd better retract those wedding invitations before things get awkward."
