Stand Me Up? I'll Marry His Billionaire Uncle novel Chapter 37

Sunny watched as Stellan raised an eyebrow, the corner of his lips curving upward in a faint, careless smile. His tone was so nonchalant, it seemed as if nothing in the world could possibly faze him.

Yet that very indifference made her mind go utterly blank. For a moment, she stood frozen, unable to move or even think.

Xander, oblivious to the true nature of their relationship, assumed she was reacting just like he was—starstruck and tongue-tied at the sight of such an important figure.

He stood up, gently tugging Sunny by the wrist and urging, "Don't just stand there—come, have a seat."

But as he slid back into his own chair, he found himself directly in the sights of Mr. Lawson's unreadable gaze—one that made his heart skip a beat. He quickly looked away, admitting silent defeat.

Only then did Sunny snap out of her trance.

She noticed the odd looks being thrown her way and managed a sheepish smile, pressing her lips together before attempting an explanation. "Sorry about that. I was just… surprised to see Mr. Lawson here."

Stellan's long fingers tapped lightly on the table, and hearing this unfamiliar, distant way she addressed him from across the room, he found it almost amusing.

But their little exchange hadn't gone unnoticed. Jude Pierce, representing Lawson Corporation, seemed to pick up on something.

With a chuckle, he teased, "Attorney Carrington, do you know our Mr. Lawson?"

Sunny instantly stiffened, bristling like a startled cat. She shook her head emphatically. "No, no, of course not! How could I possibly know Mr. Lawson?"

The atmosphere in the private dining room turned even more delicate.

Stellan's eyes darkened a shade as he leaned back in his chair, posture relaxed and almost lazy. "That's right," he drawled, "Attorney Carrington and I certainly don't know each other."

Jude Pierce suddenly looked uncertain. Had he read too much into things? Judging by Mr. Lawson's demeanor, maybe they really were strangers.

Wyatt shot his protégé a sharp look, baffled by her unusual behavior tonight. She was usually so composed—what had gotten into her?

He covered the awkward moment with a hearty laugh, raising his glass. "Mr. Lawson, I think Sunny's just a bit nervous. Please don't mind her. Allow me to toast you."

With that, he downed his wine in one go.

She wished she could disappear behind her glass.

After that, Sunny grew quiet, focusing on her meal while Wyatt, cheeks flushed from earlier wine, kept the conversation flowing with the rest of the group.

Stellan didn't say much, only chiming in occasionally.

Jude Pierce, meanwhile, picked up on the good mood their CEO seemed to be in. Maybe they really were going to choose Summit Legal as their partner.

By the end of the meal, Wyatt sensed the positive atmosphere and felt a bit more confident.

"Mr. Lawson, would you like me to call your driver for you?" he offered.

Stellan shook his head. "No need. I drove myself tonight."

He glanced around at the others. "Looks like all of you have had a drink."
