Stand Me Up? I'll Marry His Billionaire Uncle novel Chapter 43

Sunny had made a point of driving her own car today, just in case things got awkward and she needed to make a quick getaway.

But as soon as she pulled out of Lawson Manor, she suddenly remembered—she'd meant to ask Uncle Stellan about the contract.

Call it taking a shortcut if you wanted, but honestly, all she wanted was a fair and equal shot at the competition.

She pulled over to the side of the road and unlocked her phone, tapping on the profile picture that shimmered like a galaxy.

[Uncle Stellan, are you staying at the manor tonight?]

She didn't expect a reply right away—Uncle Stellan was never glued to his phone—so it caught her off guard when his answer came almost instantly.

[What is it? Waiting for me to give you a ride?]

Sunny stared at the short line on her screen, feeling a strange warmth rush to her cheeks.

Uncle Stellan always looked so serious in person, but when they messaged, his tone was different. Playful, maybe even… flirty?

She couldn't be sure if she was imagining it, but there was something about his words that seemed to gently tease her.

Sitting in the car, unable to see him in person, Sunny instinctively straightened up.

[No. I've already left. But if it's convenient for you, I can wait for you at the corner.]

Waiting was agony. More than a minute ticked by before his reply finally appeared—a single word.

[Alright.]

In the study, Stellan's thumb grazed across his phone screen as a barely-there smile tugged at the corners of his lips.

He rose from his chair unhurriedly. "Dad, Magnus, I have something to take care of. I'll be heading out."

Both men looked up, caught off guard. Abbot blinked. "I thought you agreed to stay the night, Stellan? Why leave now?"

Stellan's lips curled with a faint smile. "Sorry, Dad, I can't tonight. I forgot to feed my rabbit at home. I need to get back and take care of it."

Magnus genuinely didn't understand, but he was sure it was something his son had done.

Tristan was silent for a moment. "Dad, it's not like that. She's just been acting strange lately."

"There's only a week until the wedding. There's no way we're actually canceling! I don't care what it takes—you have to make things right with her before then."

"You saw how your grandfather treated Luna today. If you really break off the engagement, how is Luna supposed to hold her head up in this family?"

"Your grandfather even mentioned wanting to match Luna with someone for marriage."

Tristan's eyes went wide. "Grandpa wants to arrange a marriage for Luna? No way!"

Magnus's gaze sharpened. "And why not? We're all Lawsons—we're part of this family, and with that comes responsibility. If you want to call your own shots, you'd have to stop being a Lawson."

Tristan's fists clenched, the veins in his forehead pulsing. "I understand, Dad. I'll marry her. You have my word."
