Stand Me Up? I'll Marry His Billionaire Uncle novel Chapter 6

The woman's real intention had only been to annoy Sunny, not to insult Mr. Lawson.

"What nonsense are you spouting?"

Sunny's eyes sparkled with scornful amusement. "Oh, right, I swore an oath, didn't I? If he ends up childless, that would mean I broke my promise, wouldn't it? I honestly have no idea if he's lost his ability to have kids yet. Why don't you go test it for me?"

"You—!" The woman shot her a furious glare.

Her friends standing nearby stared at Sunny, eyes wide in disbelief.

Had Sunny just implied that someone else should try seducing her own fiancé?

"She's only acting cocky for now," one of them huffed. "Just wait till Luna arrives—she'll make Sunny wish she'd never shown up."

Sunny nearly forgot—on an occasion this important, Luna, the Lawsons' beloved adopted daughter, would never miss it.

"Sunny, Mom and I have been calling you for days. Why haven't you answered?"

Sunny turned around unhurriedly, just in time to see Chloe Carrington storming toward her, barely able to contain her irritation.

Her gaze shifted to the elegant woman beside Chloe—her stepmother, Grace Quinn, who smiled with practiced warmth. "Sunny, didn't you say you and Tristan were getting your marriage license on Valentine's Day? Funny, I didn't see any photos in the family group chat."

Sunny slipped her phone from her purse. "Oh, sorry, I must have accidentally left the group. The three of you seem to be doing just fine. I doubt you're missing me."

Her father, Sean Carrington, hadn't come today.

Ever since her mother died when she was three, and her father remarried just three months later, she'd known she'd lost not only her mom, but her dad, too.

"Sunny, what's that supposed to mean? Can't you show my mom a little respect?"

Before Sunny could answer, Chloe's eyes lit up. "Luna's here! Mom, I'm going over."

"Five years on, and Tristan still only has eyes for his sister," Grace remarked, voice dripping with implication.

Sunny felt something in her heart crack. "Yes, I suppose so. But tell me, Aunt Grace, do you think Tristan knows that his sister's best friend has a crush on him too?"

Grace's smile froze.

"Oh, Sunny, you do know how to joke. Chloe would never compete with you for a man."

Sunny's expression was light and unconcerned. "It's fine. I don't want him anymore anyway."

Grace stared at her in astonishment. "Sunny, you..."

She glanced from Sunny to the man now approaching behind her.

"Sunny, who is it that you don't want anymore?"
