Stand Me Up? I'll Marry His Billionaire Uncle novel Chapter 80

Sunny called the housekeeper and told her to prepare three meals a day of liquid food for her grandmother. She also reminded her to pick up another pack of nutritional supplements.

Since her grandmother was still unconscious and couldn't eat, they had to feed her through a tube. The old woman's body was weak, and if she couldn't get enough nutrients, Sunny would have to supplement her diet with some protein infusions.

The housekeeper scribbled down notes in a hurry and rushed off to prepare everything.

Sunny had already arranged for a week off from the law firm. She wanted to stay and monitor her grandmother's recovery. If the old woman woke up and her condition stabilized, Sunny planned to bring her home and hire a private nurse. That way, she could see her grandmother every evening after work.

She'd thought it all through in just one night.

What was laughable was that her father had only shown up briefly the night before—and then vanished.

As Sunny was getting ready to head home and prep the next batch of food, she saw the elevator doors slide open. Out stepped Sean, Chloe, and Grace Quinn, all three wearing somber expressions.

"Sunny, you left us behind! Why'd you rush off without waiting for me and Mom?" Chloe complained, her tone petulant.

Typical, Sunny thought. Chloe had even managed to hitch a free ride with Mr. Stellan last night—like she deserved any favors.

Sunny's voice was cool. "I told you, you didn't need to come to the hospital. I can take care of Grandma myself. Honestly, it would help if you didn't upset her any further while she's still sick."

Sean's jaw tightened. "Watch your tone. I'm your father, and she's my mother. Why shouldn't I be here?"

Sunny shot him a sidelong glance. "Oh, so now you remember she's your mother?"

Sean bristled. "Don't you get snide with me. Speak properly!"

His outburst was so loud that the head nurse poked her head around the corner. "Excuse me, this is a hospital, not a street market. Please keep your voices down!"

Sunny pressed the elevator button, gesturing for them to get in. "Go on. You can't visit the room right now. If you have anything to say, save it for when Grandma's better. I'm not arguing with you."

She stood firm, blocking their way. Grace Quinn tugged on her husband's sleeve, clearly eager to leave. "Forget it, Sean. If Sunny doesn't want us going in, let it be. You know how much her grandmother has always doted on her."

Chloe snorted. "With what money? You're barely scraping by on that paralegal salary. Now you've even pissed off Tristan—what are you going to do, start selling stuff on the street?"

Sunny's open palm connected with Chloe's smug face with a sharp smack.

"Chloe, next time I'm talking, keep your mouth shut. If all you can do is spew garbage, I won't mind teaching you a lesson your mother should have dealt with long ago."

Chloe's whole body shook with rage. "You hit me! You hit me again! Last time you threw hot tea at me, now you're slapping me? Mom! Dad! Are you just going to let her do this?"

The elevator doors slid open onto a lobby packed with people waiting for their ride. Sunny strode out without glancing back, leaving the stunned trio in her wake.

Chloe and Grace Quinn stared after her, speechless.

Did that really just happen? Did she really just get slapped for nothing?
