Swapping a Broken Heart for a New Start novel Chapter 161

Camila Davis clenched her teeth, struggling to keep her anger in check and forcing herself to stay calm.

Sandra Taylor was quickly subjected to a thorough police interrogation.

Throughout the questioning, Sandra denied every accusation Nora Lewis had made against her. “Officer, honestly, Ms. Lewis and I only bumped into each other a few times when we were abroad. We were never close. The only reason I recommended her to the Smiths was because I’d heard she was very talented. I was just trying to help.

As for her claiming I would go after a child? That’s pure fiction. She doesn’t have a shred of evidence. So, please, don’t just take her word for it!

Besides, Mr. Smith and I are quite close. I adore his daughter like she was my own. Why would I ever want to hurt her?

You can check for yourselves—my family and the Smiths have always gotten along.”

But the police weren’t about to take her word for it and kept pressing her for details.

Sandra handled the grilling like a pro, deflecting every question without missing a beat.

After about an hour, the interrogation finally ended.

The police chief himself came out to talk to Camila. “Ms. Davis, unfortunately, Nora Lewis couldn’t provide enough evidence to prove Sandra Taylor encouraged her to frame your daughter. That means we can’t press charges against Ms. Taylor.”

Camila had been waiting all evening for good news, but left empty-handed, her face set in disappointment.

She knew it wasn’t the police’s fault. Sandra Taylor was too clever, obviously prepared for this. She’d probably covered her tracks long before. Poor Nora Lewis hadn’t managed to catch her out at all.

In the end, Camila had no choice but to leave the station, feeling defeated.

As she was buckling Lillian into her car seat, she saw Sandra Taylor strutting out of the building. The smug look on Sandra’s face was impossible to miss.

“Disappointed, Camila?” Sandra taunted. “Didn’t think you’d actually get me locked up, did you?”

Camila’s anger boiled over. Just minutes ago, this woman had been playing the innocent victim for the cops. Now, outside, her true colors were showing.

She’s doing this on purpose!

Camila slammed the car door shut and strode over, her fury radiating off her in waves. Without a word, she raised her hand and slapped Sandra—hard. Twice.

The sharp cracks echoed through the parking lot.

Sandra was so stunned she stumbled to the ground.

“Camila Davis! Are you out of your mind?” Sandra screeched, clutching her burning cheek.
