Swapping a Broken Heart for a New Start novel Chapter 173

If this were to continue, her reputation would be completely ruined!

Sandra Taylor was on the verge of tears, looking desperately at the man beside her. "Jordan, what Daniel did to Lillian—it must have been a mistake. You know he can be a handful, but he’d never do something like that on purpose.

But now, Camila is making a huge deal out of it in front of everyone, slandering him. If this keeps up, Daniel’s life will be over! And she’s locked him in there… He’s learned his lesson, can’t you please get him out?”

Jordan Smith’s brow furrowed so hard it looked like it might never smooth out again. Instinctively, he glanced over at Camila Davis.

But Camila didn’t even give him a chance to speak. She just spun on her heel and, with a click, locked the heavy oak door behind her.

She’d always been the one Barbara Jones asked to clean the family chapel—she never let those keys out of her sight.

Camila finished locking up, shot Sandra a cold look, and said, “Want to save him? Let’s see how long it takes you to open that door.”

With that, she turned and walked away, Sarah Brown trailing behind.

Sandra rushed to the door in a panic, trying to shove it open.

But that door was solid as a bank vault—this was the Smith Family’s ancestral chapel, and the locks were one-of-a-kind. Good luck even trying to jimmy it open without the right key.

“The spare key! Someone get the spare key!” Sandra begged the Smiths, banging uselessly at the door.

Finally, Barbara Jones snapped out of her daze and barked at the butler, “Where’s the spare? Go find it, now!”

The butler nodded and hurried off, but the spare key was so rarely used, it took ages to find.

A half hour later, when they finally got the door open, Daniel was a sobbing mess on the floor, gasping for breath and whimpering, “Mom, I’m scared…”

Sandra’s heart nearly broke seeing him like that. She pulled him into her arms, anger boiling in her chest—her hatred for Camila Davis reaching a new level.

Jordan watched the two of them, and finally couldn’t help himself—he bent down and helped Daniel up.

Daniel, snot and tears running down his face, looked up miserably. “Dad Jordan, that mean lady was horrible to me!”

Jordan ruffled his hair, trying to comfort him, but said, “Don’t say that. This whole mess started because of your prank. You’ve learned your lesson—don’t do it again, alright?”
