Swapping a Broken Heart for a New Start novel Chapter 180

The auctioneer nodded, keeping the event moving right along.

Everyone in the crowd craned their necks, curious to see if the two big shots up front would keep outbidding each other.

But to everyone’s surprise, Jordan Smith suddenly went silent.

Camila Davis’s question just now had tipped him off—the medicine up for bid was for treating mental health conditions.

That meant… she was buying it for Lillian?

Jordan frowned, immediately losing his desire to keep bidding.

Sandra Taylor was so mad she almost cracked a tooth. She’d just been shown up and was hoping to get back at them with a bidding war. But now, Jordan had just dropped out—just like that!

She was seething inside, but didn’t dare make a scene.

After that, the rest of the auction went off without a hitch.

At one point, Walter Wilson made a bid and won a beautiful antique bracelet—top-quality emerald beads, strung together with expert craftsmanship, and apparently blessed by an old monk for good luck.

The auctioneer announced, “Emerald is said to bring peace to its wearer. This bracelet was even blessed centuries ago for protection and good health!”

Naturally, the price was sky-high.

But once Walter had it in hand, he turned right around and handed it to Camila. “Give this to Lillian. It’s delicate and perfect for her. I hope it keeps her safe and healthy as she grows up.”

Camila was a little taken aback, then tried to refuse. “That’s way too generous, Walter. She’s just a kid—she can’t be wearing something that expensive.”

Walter just waved her off. “We can make it into a necklace, keep it under her shirt! Take it—it’s got such a good meaning, and she could use a little extra luck. Besides, this is nothing compared to what you’ll bring to our research team one day.”

He’d always believed in her. Even before they got married, Camila had developed an incredible new drug. Now that she was back in the field, her future was even brighter. She just needed time.

Camila saw he wasn’t going to take no for an answer, so she accepted the gift for Lillian. “Thanks, Walter. I promise I’ll work even harder and help take our brand global.”

Walter grinned. “Can’t wait to see it!”

They chatted happily, while, not far away, Jordan watched the whole thing.

The entire night, Camila hadn’t even spared Jordan another glance. She’d let Walter outmaneuver him, and now she was accepting gifts from him…

Jordan’s face darkened, irritation bubbling just under the surface.

After buying what she wanted, Camila and Walter didn’t stick around; they headed off to pay and left soon after.

As soon as Jordan noticed, he followed them outside.

Sandra Taylor had planned to wait until the auction ended, but when she saw Jordan leaving, she hurried after him.
