As soon as Camila Davis was free, she swept Lillian into her arms, taking several quick steps back to put distance between herself and Jordan Smith.
Jordan hadn’t expected anyone to break his grip so easily. He froze, stunned. The way that guy handled things—his strength, his technique—this wasn’t something an average person could pull off.
Who the hell is this guy?
But questions would have to wait. The man’s protective stance—and Camila’s reaction, like she was dodging a rattlesnake—only poured fuel on his already blazing temper.
Jordan’s voice dropped cold as ice, a dangerous edge slicing through his words. “I don’t care what you and Camila have going on, but as of right now, I’m still her husband. You’d better back off and stay out of our business. Or else, crossing the Smith family is going to cost you more than you can handle.”
The threat in his tone was unmistakable.
A few steps away, Aaron caught the scene and hurried over, barking, “You’re out of line—”
Sure, the Smiths might have clout in Harrisburg, but they were nothing compared to Mr. Williams.
Before Aaron could finish, Dennis Williams raised a calm hand, signaling him to stop.
Facing Jordan, Dennis’s demeanor was steady and commanding, radiating an authority that couldn’t be challenged. He spoke quietly, but his words cut sharp: “Really? Roughing up a woman in public—this is how the Smiths do business these days?”
Jordan faltered, his face stiffening.
Most of the guests at this hotel were either wealthy or well-connected, plenty of them from the same social circles. In his anger, Jordan hadn’t thought it through. Now, with all eyes on him, he sobered up a little.
Didn’t mean he was any less furious, though—especially at this man in front of him, exuding a quiet power that made even Jordan cautious. There were very few men his age who could make him feel even the slightest bit threatened.
First Walter Wilson, now this guy.
