Swapping a Broken Heart for a New Start novel Chapter 266

Aaron took care of things in no time.

Meanwhile, over at Camila Davis’s office, she had barely hung up the phone when officials from the relevant agency arrived.

They didn’t waste a second. The lead inspector, a no-nonsense woman in a navy suit, got straight to the point: “We’ve been briefed on the situation. Since The Smith Group’s drug has been reported for possible issues, we’re going to collect samples for further investigation and testing. Until we have results, The Smith Group’s product is barred from going to market.”

She glanced at Camila, then continued, “We’re also aware you had several large orders lined up. For public safety, it’s best to cancel those.”

Sandra Taylor, The Smith Group’s head of sales, looked like she’d swallowed a lemon. Those orders were the biggest the R&D department had ever landed. The profit margin was enormous. The money was already as good as in their bank accounts—why give it up now?

She stepped forward quickly. “The tests haven’t come back yet. As long as we don’t ship the product, the orders shouldn’t be affected, right?”

Jordan Smith, the company’s young CEO, nodded in agreement. “We’re happy to cooperate with your investigation. As for sales, you have our word—we won’t put anything on the shelves until you give us the green light. And if there’s a real issue, we’ll cancel the orders ourselves.”

Camila could see right through them. Even with Mr. Reed’s life on the line, their ambition was undimmed.

Well, if they thought they could just walk away with this, they were in for a surprise.

She crossed her arms and said sharply, “I agree, we need answers as soon as possible. After all, Mr. Reed nearly died. Testing takes time, and if something happens during the wait, who knows what the consequences could be? For everyone’s sake—especially Mr. Reed’s—we should find out the truth now. He’s done a lot for our country, and we owe him that much.”

The chief inspector shot her a thoughtful look.
