Swapping a Broken Heart for a New Start novel Chapter 268

Upon hearing this, the head of the FDA nodded gravely. “This is no small matter. Ms. Taylor, you’ll need to come with us and assist in our investigation.”

Gary Reed’s voice was icy as he spoke up, “The Smith Group nearly killed my father, Mr. Williams. We need an explanation for this. If we don’t get one, the Reeds won’t just let it slide.”

Jordan Smith and Sandra Taylor both looked shaken, but Sandra in particular went pale with panic.

How could she possibly go to the police station? She had nothing to do with this mess.

She instinctively clung to Jordan’s arm, her voice trembling. “Jordan, I really don’t want to go to the station. The medication was a team project—if there’s a data error, it’s just a mistake. How can they say anyone was trying to hurt someone?”

Camila Davis immediately shot back, sarcasm dripping from every word. “Oh, come on, Ms. Taylor. You’re the head of R&D. You greenlit the drug, you handled the FDA paperwork, and you personally pushed for Mr. Reed to take it. Now you want to act like none of this is on you?”

She smirked. “If I remember right, the Smith Group’s motto is ‘the buck stops with the team leader’ when something goes wrong. Or did that change the day I left the company? Or maybe you’re just scared. Maybe you knew there was a problem with the drug but didn’t want to waste all the company’s hard work—so you ignored it and pushed the launch anyway? If that’s the case, then the investigation is even more necessary.”

Sandra could barely contain her anger. Camila was twisting everything.

But the FDA official and Gary Reed looked dead serious now, taking every word in. Gary didn’t waste time—he called the cops right then and there.

Jordan’s face was stone cold. In all his years running the Smith Group, they’d never faced an official inquiry before. And now, thanks to Camila’s meddling, they were in deep trouble.
