Dennis Williams looked a little puzzled, furrowing his brow. “What’s so unusual about it? The Smith Group stole trade secrets, two people teamed up, and it hurt Walter Wilson’s business. Isn’t it normal for him to strike back?”
“Well…”
Aaron couldn’t argue with that, at least not at first. But he quickly added, “Sure, if it’s just about getting compensation for the losses, that’s fair enough. But he could’ve gone straight to The Smith Group. Legally, they’re the ones who did the stealing. If you’re going after damages, sue them—no need to drag the Taylors into this mess.
But this time, Walter Wilson went straight for The Taylor Family’s jugular. Why? It’s gotta be because of Sandra Taylor!
And as far as I know, Sandra never had any beef with The Wilson Group. Even if he wanted to make a point about the theft, a few days behind bars and a settlement would have been plenty.
Plus, her reputation’s already in tatters. Why go for overkill?”
Dennis paused. He hadn’t thought of it that way.
But now that Aaron had put it out there, it did make some sense.
He rubbed his forehead, deep in thought.
Aaron pressed on, “And hey, it’s the holidays! Everyone’s supposed to be home with family, celebrating, eating turkey and pumpkin pie. But Sandra Taylor just walked out of jail, and The Smith Group still hasn’t coughed up any compensation. I’ll bet Ms. Davis isn’t exactly in a festive mood right now!”
Dennis fell silent.
He remembered just last night, seeing Camila Davis on video chat, her face clouded with worry and exhaustion.
Aaron wasn’t finished, still muttering, “Poor Ms. Davis. If it were me, I’d lose my appetite completely! The Smiths are ruthless—treated her like dirt when they were married, then after the divorce, they don’t even care if she sinks or swims!
The thief gets rescued just like that, and he never seemed to think about Lillian’s future even once. His so-called ‘first love’ is more important than his own daughter?
Ms. Davis and her little girl… man, they’ve got it rough.”
Dennis’s frown deepened.
