Swapping a Broken Heart for a New Start novel Chapter 311

Dennis Williams heard the question and shot Aaron a look that was somewhere between a smirk and a blank stare.

His eyes were always hard to read—deep, a little mysterious. Right now, even more so.

Aaron’s curiosity was killing him. He waited, practically bouncing on his toes, dying for an answer.

After a long pause, Dennis finally spoke. “Looks like I haven’t given you enough work. If you’ve got this much time on your hands, go help out in the infirmary.”

And with that, he turned on his heel—those long legs carrying him away before Aaron could even think to protest.

Aaron just stared after him, speechless.

All I did was ask, and that’s the response I get? Seriously?

So… does he like me or not??

The question gnawed at Aaron’s mind for the rest of the day.

Meanwhile, Camila Davis had no clue any of this was going on. Once she’d parted ways with Dennis, she threw herself into her work.

Making medicine was no easy task—it took time, precision, and a whole lot of patience. Most of the folks here didn’t have much experience, and with so few hands to help, Camila had to do most of it herself.

By the end of the day, she barely had a moment to breathe.

But at least the hard work paid off.

By 9 p.m., the last batch of medicine for the special ops guys was finally done.
