Swapping a Broken Heart for a New Start novel Chapter 322

“Once I’m back in Harrisburg, I’ll use my own meds—I’ll be back to normal in a couple days, tops!”

“So… can we just call it even? No more hard feelings, okay?”

Dennis Williams didn’t say anything for a second, but since even she was stepping in to smooth things over, he let it go.

Aaron finally exhaled, feeling like he’d just dodged a bullet.

For a second there, he honestly thought he’d have to fall on his sword, medieval-knight style. Thank God for Ms. Davis—her words always seemed to work wonders!

Trying to make up for his earlier screw-up, Aaron spent the rest of the afternoon carefully putting every single file back where it belonged.

By the end of the day, their work was wrapped up, and the whole team was ready to leave their mountain base and head back to Harrisburg.

As they were about to go, Steven Edwards personally came out to see them off, a handful of freshly-recovered special forces guys standing behind him.

The way those guys looked at her—so grateful, like she’d handed them a get-out-of-jail-free card.

“Ms. Davis, we seriously owe you one,” Steven said. “If you hadn’t been here, who knows how bad things could’ve gotten.”

“Yeah, really. Thanks for sticking around, even with the way things are up here. I know this place is a far cry from a nice downtown hotel, but you toughed it out for us.”

The mountains were freezing, everything was a hassle, and it was no place for anyone who liked their creature comforts—especially not a young woman. But she never once complained, and even stayed a couple extra days to perfect her new treatment.

That kind of grit? It really made people sit up and take notice.

Camila Davis just smiled. “Honestly, I should be the one thanking you all. I learned so much here, and those case files you shared—honestly, you can’t put a price on that kind of information. I’m the lucky one.”

Steven glanced sideways at Dennis Williams, a sly little look in his eyes—and Dennis shot back a silent warning.

Steven almost wanted to laugh. Military files didn’t just fall into your lap, not unless you had someone with some serious pull on your side.
