"Alright," Camila Davis nodded, not turning down his offer.
By the end of dinner, though, the blush on her ears still hadn’t faded.
Dennis Williams found it rather adorable—he couldn’t help glancing her way several times, his eyes growing a shade darker with each look.
Later that evening, he offered to drive them home.
When Camila stepped out of the car with little Lillian, she turned to say goodbye, but Dennis stopped her. "Wait, there’s one more thing I haven’t done yet."
Camila blinked, puzzled. "What else?"
She watched as Dennis reached into the backseat and pulled something out, handing it to Lillian. "This is a gift for you, kiddo."
Camila’s eyes widened. It looked like another violin.
"You too?" she asked in surprise. "Didn’t Lillian’s teacher already give her one today?"
Dennis grinned. "I promised her last week I'd get her a violin. Didn’t know Isabella would beat me to it. But hey, that one can stay at her place for lessons, and this one’s for practice at home."
Camila hesitated, worried this was too much. Dennis had already done so much for them. No matter how nice he was, she hated the idea of taking advantage of his kindness.
Sensing her reluctance, Dennis added gently, "Go ahead, take it. It’s nothing fancy, not as expensive as Isabella’s. Just a simple one for Lillian to practice on…"
He met her eyes, his tone sincere. "I’m her teacher too, aren’t I? Why should she only accept Isabella’s gift and not mine?"
Camila realized there was no way out of this. She accepted the violin, albeit with a resigned smile. "Alright. Thank you, Dennis."
Lillian, without needing any prompting from her mom, piped up in her sweet, childish voice, "Thank you, Uncle Dennis!"
"You’re very welcome," Dennis chuckled, ruffling her soft hair. "It's getting late, you two better head inside."
"Okay," Camila nodded.
Lillian waved enthusiastically. "Bye, Uncle Dennis!"
Dennis watched them go until they were safely inside, then finally signaled to Aaron to drive off.
By the time Camila and Lillian got home, Sarah Brown was curled up on the couch watching a movie, a bowl of strawberries in her lap.
She glanced up as they came in, immediately noticing the violin case. "Weren’t you at therapy today? Where’d that come from?"
"Uncle Dennis gave it to me!" Lillian answered proudly.
Sarah raised an eyebrow. "Okay, what’s the story there?"
