Swapping a Broken Heart for a New Start novel Chapter 383

Dennis Williams nodded, his voice gentle and reassuring. “Really, it’s fine. Don’t worry about me.”

His calming tone was smooth and deep, the kind that instantly put people at ease.

Camila Davis studied his face, searching for any sign of a lie. But Dennis looked sincere, so she finally let out a quiet sigh of relief.

Just then, Mr. Morris hurried over, clearly there to thank Dennis. “Thank you for saving Camila,” he said, his voice thick with relief, like a man who’d just dodged disaster.

He clasped Dennis’s hand. “If you ever need anything, sir, just ask. Our medical school will always remember what you did for us tonight.”

Dennis could tell Mr. Morris truly cared about Camila, and his gratitude was honest. But Dennis just waved it off. “No need, really. It was nothing. But…”

His eyes suddenly darkened as he glanced across the room at Mr. Mark. “But at a grand event like this, it’s not exactly acceptable to have someone cause such a scene, is it, Chief?”

No one in the crowd really knew who Dennis Williams was, but his words carried a natural authority that made people stand a little straighter.

Mr. Mark hurried over, his attitude respectful. “You’re right, sir. So, uh… how do you think we should handle this?”

Truthfully, Mr. Mark was shocked. He’d gotten word earlier that Dennis wouldn’t even be attending tonight’s gala. Now, being questioned by him in front of everyone, Mr. Mark felt a cold sweat break out at the back of his neck.

Aaron jumped in, his voice blunt. “Everyone saw Ms. Taylor shove someone. Even if they missed it, there’s CCTV. That’s assault, plain and simple. We should call the police. And while we’re at it, someone’s gotta pay for all the ruined champagne and broken glasses—plus, all the guests were frightened. Don’t you think an apology’s in order?”

Mr. Morris scowled. “An apology? That’s not nearly enough! How dare she lay a hand on my student! Unless there’s a proper explanation, this isn’t over!”

Sandra Taylor, pale as a sheet, finally realized the trouble she was in. In this room, surrounded by people way out of her league, she was in serious hot water. And with her current resources, how could she possibly cover the damages? Regret hit her hard—why had she lost her temper like that?

If this wasn’t handled well, she was looking at more than just embarrassment—she could end up in jail.

No! That can’t happen!
