After she finished speaking, she hurriedly left the coffee morning.
As soon as she was outside, Barbara whipped out her phone and started making calls, frantically trying to find out what happened last night.
Everyone seemed to know—except her! She was the only one left in the dark.
Apparently, whatever happened last night was a big deal, and word had already spread all over their social circle.
So it didn’t take long before Barbara Jones finally pieced together the whole story.
When she heard the details, she felt the world spin around her. She nearly passed out right there on the sidewalk.
“No way… This can’t be…”
How could this be possible?!
Camila Davis, of all people? There’s just no way.
It had to be some kind of mistake.
But even at this point, Barbara refused to believe it. She stormed straight into Jordan Smith’s office without another thought.
“Jordan! Jordan! You’d better tell me the truth—what’s this about you being the Miracle Doctor’s apprentice?!”
Barbara was so worked up that her voice echoed down the hallway before she even stepped inside.
Mason Smith had shown up too, his face like thunder—obviously, he wasn’t happy either.
Jordan looked up from his stack of paperwork to see both his parents standing there.
Mason’s voice was low and tense as he demanded, “Camila Davis’s background—what’s going on? Is it true she’s really the Miracle Doctor’s protégé?”
Jordan was still shaken, even after a sleepless night.
After the banquet last night, he’d been caught up in a whirlwind of emotions. His ex-wife, whom everyone had underestimated, had suddenly become someone of major importance—yet he’d only found out when everyone else did. The humiliation was hard to swallow. He’d ditched Sandra Taylor at the event and hadn’t even gone home.
He hadn’t slept a wink and dragged himself into the Smith Group first thing in the morning, only to be ambushed by his parents the moment he arrived.
He felt like he was going to explode, but he still answered honestly, “Yes, Camila Davis is Mr. Morris’s apprentice.”
“So it’s true?!”
Barbara staggered, her face pale, and collapsed onto the nearest couch.
That meant they’d kicked out a woman with limitless potential, only to replace her with Sandra Taylor—a troublemaker with nothing to offer except embarrassment.
For a couple as calculating as the Smiths, this was a nightmare.
“Why didn’t you ever tell us about this?” Mason demanded, barely able to contain his anger. “Do you realize what Camila’s worth now? She’s got connections to the best medical school in the country!”
That “medical school”—famous for its legacy of ancient healing—was said to be priceless. Its alumni included everyone from senators to generals.
And the Miracle Doctor? Rumor had it he’d even treated presidents and foreign dignitaries. His network alone was worth more than the entire Smith Group put together.
Jordan’s jaw was clenched. Of course, he knew exactly how valuable Camila was now.
