Swapping a Broken Heart for a New Start novel Chapter 398

There was bitterness in her voice, pure and sharp.

For weeks, Sandra Taylor had been crushed under the weight of Camila Davis’s relentless attacks. Everywhere she turned, people snickered behind her back. But as for the man standing in front of her now—what right did he have to look at her like that?

He was just a washed-up ex-model, for God’s sake.

Back in the day, she’d only bothered with him because, well, he had a decent face. That was it. What else did he have going for him?

Alexander didn’t flinch when she snapped at him. Instead, he let out a low, mocking laugh. “What’s wrong? Hit a nerve? I’m just telling the truth. The only idiot left who still buys your little act is Jordan Smith. But… I doubt even he’ll believe you for much longer. I mean—if you’re really as squeaky clean as you say, why are you so worried about someone finding out the truth?”

He leaned in, his voice dropping, “And those wild days you spent overseas—you really think you can keep all that hidden from Jordan forever?”

With every word, Sandra’s face grew paler.

“If he finds out his precious first love is… well, less of an angel and more of a—let’s say, a regular at every frat house in Boston—what do you think he’ll do? How do you think he’ll feel?”

That last line was too much. Sandra reacted like a cat with its tail stepped on.

SMACK!

“Shut your damn mouth!”

She was furious, her hand stinging from the slap she’d just delivered to Alexander’s face. Sure, she’d been reckless back then, but who hadn’t made mistakes in their youth? She’d just wanted to have a little fun. She never imagined it would spiral into this—forced into a marriage, stuck raising a child with this man.

That’s why she’d stayed overseas for so long, giving Camila Davis the perfect opportunity to swoop in and take everything.

Now, just when she was about to set everything right again, she absolutely refused to let anyone—especially Alexander—ruin things for her.

Gritting her teeth, Sandra glared at him. “Don’t you dare bring up my past. My patience is wearing thin. What is it you want from me? Just spit it out already!”

Alexander rolled his tongue over his numb cheek, but he seemed more amused than angry. Seeing Sandra on edge only made him grin wider.

“Alright, let’s not waste time, then. I need money. A lot of it—three million dollars. Wire it to my account. Fast.”

Sandra stared at him, almost laughing in disbelief. “Are you out of your mind? Where the hell am I supposed to get that kind of money?”

She thought Alexander had finally lost it. Even back when The Taylor Group was still thriving, she wouldn’t have been able to just hand over three million dollars without a second thought.
