Lillian looked hesitant, her face a picture of nerves.

Dennis Williams' voice was low and gentle as he encouraged her, "Don’t worry, sweetheart. Uncle’s right here. It won’t hurt you, I promise.”

Lillian moved tentatively, reaching out her tiny hand, but halfway there, she pulled it back, biting her lip.

Dennis didn’t rush her. He just waited patiently, giving her all the time she needed to muster up her courage.

After what felt like forever, Lillian finally took the plunge.

She stretched out a single finger and poked the little puppy’s neck.

The pup let out a whimper, clearly not thrilled.

Dennis chuckled softly, his voice warm. “You have to pet it gently, like this. That way, it’ll trust you.”

He showed her, running his hand in a slow, soothing motion over the puppy’s soft fur.

Lillian nodded, determined, and copied him as best she could.

This time, the puppy didn’t shy away—instead, it closed its eyes, tail wagging contentedly.

Lillian’s face lit up with delight as she glanced back at Dennis.

He smiled proudly. “Great job! See? It likes you now. You can keep playing with it, help it get to know you better.”

He guided her step by step: first stroking the puppy’s neck, then rubbing its belly, then finally showing her how to shake its little paw.

After about half an hour, the two had become fast friends.

The puppy was chasing Lillian around, determined to snuggle against her legs at every opportunity, as affectionate as could be.

Lillian was over the moon, laughing as they played together on the living room rug.

Once Dennis had finished guiding her, the handsome calm returned to his face, and he turned coolly to Aaron. “Bring me my sketchbook.”

Aaron blinked, a little dazed at the sudden shift back to Mr. Williams’ usual distant demeanor.

For a moment there, seeing Mr. Williams so gentle and easygoing, he almost thought he’d been replaced by someone else.
