While she waited, Camila Davis couldn’t help but replay the conversation she was about to have over and over in her mind. She rehearsed exactly what she would say—how she’d persuade him, the right words to use, the right tone.
But minutes kept ticking by, and there was still no sign of a car.
According to Mr. White, the guy was supposed to be here in half an hour, tops.
Was he bailing on them again?
Just as Camila’s nerves were about to snap, the sound of a car engine finally drifted in from outside.
She craned her neck to peek out the window.
A familiar-looking Rolls-Royce glided into the driveway.
“He’s here!”
Mr. White spotted it too and immediately headed out to greet their guest.
Naturally, Camila scooped up Lillian and followed.
Her heart beat faster as she stepped outside, her eyes glued to the back seat, desperate to catch a glimpse of the mysterious guest.
But the first door that swung open was the driver’s.
Aaron stepped out, dressed in a crisp navy suit, radiating a kind, polished vibe.
Camila’s first thought was that he must be the big shot they’d been waiting for.
But Mr. White spoke up first. “Aaron, you finally made it!”
Aaron offered a calm, reassuring smile as he approached. “It’s just me, actually.”
Mr. White blinked. “Wait—Mr. Williams isn’t here?”
Aaron nodded. “He got an urgent call on the way and had to head back to Cabinda. It was sudden.”
A wave of disappointment crashed over Camila, almost knocking the breath out of her.
Mr. White looked equally caught off guard. Clearly, something important had come up. When duty called, you couldn’t exactly ignore it.
