Jordan Smith, that absolute jerk—he’s got such a great kid at home and still goes chasing after every pretty face he sees. Seriously, is he blind?
…
Night fell quickly.
At Sandra Taylor’s apartment, Jordan showed up right on time to pick her up for the gala.
Normally, Sandra should have been ready and waiting, but tonight she was moving at a snail’s pace, dragging out every minute. When she was halfway into her evening gown, she called out to Jordan with a shy smile, “Uh, would you mind zipping me up? I can’t quite reach…”
Jordan nodded slightly and stepped behind her.
The open zipper revealed a smooth, pale back—slender and elegant—enough to make anyone’s mind wander.
His gaze darkened as he carefully pulled the zipper up. His voice was low and husky. “There you go.”
“Thanks,” she said with a playful grin, turning to face him.
As she turned, her heel caught on the rug—those stilettos were way too high—and she nearly toppled over.
Jordan reacted instantly, catching her just before she fell, and somehow she ended up right in his arms.
Sandra’s hands pressed against his chest, her cheeks flushed, her eyes shy and sparkling.
Jordan’s grip tightened just a little on her waist, his expression growing even more intense.
But, nothing happened. After a slightly awkward pause, they headed out—after all, the gala was about to start!
…
The Harris family’s gala was the social event of the season, drawing almost every big name in Harrisburg.
Jordan and Sandra arrived at the Harris estate just after 7:30 p.m.
The driveway was a showcase of luxury cars, and security was tight—you needed your invitation in hand to get inside.
At the entrance, Jordan realized his invitation was missing. He searched his pockets, came up empty, and finally had to call someone to bring him a replacement.
By the time they got in, the place was already buzzing.
Jordan’s arrival turned heads immediately.
The Smiths weren’t quite old money, but they were still one of the top five business dynasties in the city. Jordan himself was a legend in the boardroom, the up-and-coming star everyone wanted to meet.
Ever since his grandmother passed away and he took over, his reputation had only grown.
