Chapter 101
“He’s not happy my son out ranked his nephew. But, besides that, it’s their job to assess Christian’s success in this pack. They hired him to do a job, and they want to make sure they chose the right person.”
“You don’t seem concerned,” I say.
“My son IS the right person for this job. I have no doubt about that. And when the council leaves here, they’ll know it too.”
“Have we figured out what happened to Nurse Nancy?” I ask, looking past Alpha Sebastian to where Dr. Charles is performing an autopsy.
“Yeah,” he says, his tone becoming angry. “She was injected with silver.”
“Where is all this silver coming from?” I ask him.
“A very good question.”
‘Christian, we need to search the packhouse, maybe starting with the rooms,‘ I say, pushing past his mental walls. The moment I realize he’s in the shower, I blush. ‘Sorry. I thought you were still with the council.‘
‘It’s fine. I didn’t get a shower this morning. Did you eat?‘ he asks.
‘No.‘
‘I’ll send food for you, Sebastiana, my dad. So, why are we searching rooms?‘
‘Nancy was injected with silver. That’s two people killed with silver. There has to be some in the packhouse, stashed away or some sort of paraphernalia with silver residue,‘ I tell him.
Because he does it to me, and because I know he’s in the shower, I brush my consciousness against his.
‘Enya…‘ he growls.
‘Is the council in the shower with you, Christian? Are they going to see something they shouldn’t?‘ I tease.

‘You said you would behave,‘ he growls.
‘I don’t see how the council could be worried about me talking to you in the mind link, Christian,‘ I say smugly.
‘You know the effect you have on me, Enya. Now I’m going to have to spend more time showering. Your idea is a good one. As soon as I… take care of this problem, I’ll start a search. How is Judith?‘
‘I haven’t gotten that far yet. I’ll let you know if there are any problems.‘
‘Make sure you cat. You missed breakfast too,‘ he says.
He doesn’t close the mind link. I wait a moment, then brush my consciousness against his again. This time I feel him mentally jerk in response, and I hear his possessive growl before the mind link snaps closed.
I smirk and refocus, realizing that Alpha Sebastian is watching me.
“Are you done talking to Christian?” he asks me. My cheeks become so hot I feel like I might
combust.
“I told him we need to do a search of the packhouse,” I say.
“Good thinking,” he says, grinning at me but not saying any more. If it’s possible, I think my cheeks get even hotter.
“So, what about Judith?” I ask, changing the subject.
“Definitely wolfsbane. Her wolf is drugged, but Dr. Charles and Nurse Laura are giving her fluids to flush it out of her system. They have her under surveillance.”
