The legal counsel finally had to ask, "Who... is the divorce agreement for?"
"Me," Julian replied without glancing up from the contract he was reviewing.
The attorney froze, momentarily stunned.
Wasn't Mr. Nicholson's girlfriend Miss Shepherd, the daughter of Shepherd Construction? He'd never heard anything about Mr. Nicholson and Miss Shepherd actually getting married. So where was this "divorce" coming from?
But the ice in Julian's expression warned against any further inquiry. The legal counsel deemed it wiser to retreat, and so he left without another word.
He stepped out of the office and almost ran straight into Gideon Fleming, Julian's executive assistant, who was approaching the door.
"Gideon, could I ask you something?" the legal counsel whispered, glancing around nervously. "Isn't Mr. Nicholson's girlfriend Miss Shepherd? When did they get married?"
Gideon's eyes narrowed, his face hardening immediately. "I suggest you keep your curiosity about the boss's private life to yourself."
"But… Mr. Nicholson just asked me to draft a divorce agreement." the legal counsel faltered.
Gideon was silent for a moment.
He knew the real story behind Julian and Winona's marriage. Winona had chased after Mr. Nicholson since she was sixteen, and eventually, she'd managed to seduce him into her bed. That one night was all it took to change her fate—she was pregnant.
Mr. Nicholson married her because of the child.
The whole thing had been kept secret. Almost no one knew.
"Just do as you're told and draft the agreement. You know how to protect assets—the Nicholson estate is vast, but not a cent should end up with an outsider." Gideon's meaning couldn't have been clearer.
"You mean… she walks away with nothing?"
"Exactly." Gideon answered without a hint of sympathy.
Though his paycheck came from the Nicholson Group, it was Felicity Shepherd who had secured him the position. No matter how he sliced it, he felt he owed her a quiet heads-up.
He stepped down the hall and pulled out his phone, about to call Felicity, when he spotted her coming from the reception area.
He couldn't help but stare in admiration as Felicity strode toward him.
She wore a sleeveless black turtleneck and tailored black trousers that draped perfectly, accentuating her tall, graceful figure. Her energy was infectious, her expression lively, and her long, slightly wavy hair flowed behind her like a dark waterfall. She carried a luxurious designer tote in one hand, a trench coat draped casually over her arm.
