Jordyn leaned over as well. Seeing Trevor, she said, “Oh! It’s Dad! Mom, let Dad in!”
Celeste lowered her eyes. “Mm.”
The rest of the Rodriguez family overheard their conversation. They were a bit surprised to learn that Trevor was coming over, but since Jordyn was there, they didn’t ask Celeste why he was here.
A moment later, Trevor arrived
Celeste went out to meet him and asked, “Are you here to pick my grandmother up to visit the hospital?”
“Yes.”

About ten minutes later, Betty finally came out of the house.

Jordyn was also getting ready to leave for school and said to Trevor, “Bye, Dad!”

After exchanging nods with Celeste and the rest of the Rodriguez family, he got into his car and drove away.
Celeste also got into her car and took Jordyn to school.
At 11:30 am, while Celeste was busy at work, Betty called and said, “The surgery was a success.”
Celeste finally felt relieved. She had just put down her phone when a call from Trevor came through. But she didn’t answer.
Shortly after, a message arrived from him. “We’re going out for lunch later. Want to join?”
Celeste didn’t reply. She was sure Trevor would understand exactly what her silence meant.
Sure enough, after that, he didn’t send another message.
But just around noon, Lottie called. “Cell I just saw your husband–no, future ex–husband–helping your grandmother up the stairs outside a restaurant!”

“No.”
While flipping through a book, Celeste briefly explained that Martha had fallen and been hospitalized. Then she added, “We visited Grandma, and he’s just being grateful.”
That was why he had personally come to pick up Betty this morning.
Lottie sounded disappointed. “So, it’s just that?”

Celeste shut her car door without sparing her another glance and carried the flowers inside.

As soon as she pushed open the hospital room door, she saw Trevor, Beck, and Miles sitting inside. Thinking back to Wynn waiting downstairs, she immediately understood they had likely come together.
As for whether Wynn had already been inside to see Martha, she had no way of knowing.
Noticing her arrival, Miles smirked.
Beck, however, stood up from his chair.
Meanwhile, Trevor walked toward her and said, “You’re here.”
Ignoring him, Celeste withdrew her gaze. Only after making eye contact with Martha did she finally smile and say, “Grandma ”

This book needs to be ignored for 2 weeks in order to get something out of it when you read. The chapters are too short and you come out with nothing when reading one chapter. If this book wasn't so nice and I wasn't so far with it, I would have quit reading....
