Ethan pulled a face and muttered, “See? I told you you’re a total amateur. You can’t even tie a knot!”
The leader of the kidnappers shot a glare at his bumbling henchman and smacked him hard on the back of the head. “You idiot! Can’t even tie up a kid properly? Are you trying to get us killed?”
The kidnapper rushed to defend himself. “Boss, I swear, I did tie him up. I don’t know how this kid managed to—”
He trailed off, his expression blank with confusion. He genuinely couldn’t figure out how the ropes had come undone.
“Enough excuses!” the boss snapped. “Just hurry up and do it again!”
If they wasted any more time here, someone was bound to discover them.
The kidnapper nodded frantically and bent down to tie Ethan up again. But no matter how many times he tried, he just couldn’t manage to get it right.
Ethan sighed, exasperated. “Oh, for crying out loud—just let me do it myself. At the rate you’re going, it’ll be dark before you’re done.”
The kidnapper stared at him in disbelief. Did this kid even realize what he was saying?
Before he could respond, Ethan had already grabbed the rope and expertly tied himself up, even finishing with a perfect little bow.
The kidnapper blinked, his jaw dropping. He’d never seen a kidnapping victim tie themselves up before, and suddenly he started questioning his own rope-tying skills.
Ethan, on the other hand, seemed rather pleased with his work. That bow was downright fancy.
The boss was completely stunned. When he looked around, he saw that the other three children had also bound their own hands and feet, their movements so synchronized it was as if they’d trained for this.
A chill crept up the leader’s spine. There was something seriously off about these kids.
“What’s going on here?” he demanded. “How did you do that?”
Noah answered coolly, “You guys are just too slow. We figured we’d save you some time. Enough talk—let’s get this over with.”
At that moment, the kidnappers’ pride took a serious hit.
