THE DIVORCE GAMBIT From Dumped Wife to CEO's Forever novel Chapter 339

Although the city was nice enough, Fortune simply couldn’t let go of everything he had in Silverhaven—not his home, not the life he’d built there. He’d filled his lakeside villa with lush plants, too many to count. Before leaving for The Capital, he’d asked friends to stop by and water them, but he couldn’t keep imposing on people forever.

He smiled gently at this thought. “Catie, don’t worry about me. Now that I’ve learned how to fly, I’ll come visit you in The Capital whenever I get the chance.”

Since Fortune had made his feelings clear, Caitlin could only respect his wishes. “Then, Grandpa, how about every holiday I come pick you up from Silverhaven and bring you to The Capital so you can celebrate with us?”

“That sounds wonderful.” Fortune nodded, his smile kind.

Caitlin then asked, “When are you planning to head back?”

“Tomorrow.” Fortune’s tone was light as he added, “I’ve already told your grandma and your great-aunt.”

Keira and Hannah had tried their best to convince him to stay longer, but Fortune simply couldn’t get used to life in the city. His days here seemed to blur together—sleeping, eating, playing cards. He actually found himself missing the routine of working back home.

“All right then, I’ll drive you back,” Caitlin said. “I need to stop by my university anyway to sort out some paperwork.”

With Stuart Gonzales still recovering, Caitlin couldn’t be away from The Capital for too long. She had to meet with her professors and arrange a leave of absence for the semester, keeping her enrollment active so she could return for her final exams.

Fortune nodded. “Sounds good.”

Silverhaven.

Gordon Sylvester had spent the past few days caught up in the chaos of moving.

He wasn’t fond of letting the house staff touch his personal belongings, so he was in his room now, packing everything himself.

Skyler Cumming was there too, helping out.

As they tidied up, Skyler kept up a steady stream of chatter, with Gordon mostly listening in silence.

Suddenly, Skyler changed the subject. “By the way, Uncle Gordon, did you know Caitlin’s coming back to Silverhaven tomorrow?”

Gordon glanced over his shoulder. “How do you know that?”

“No.”

“Then why the long face?” Skyler burst out laughing. “Oh, right, I forgot. You always look like you have a face carved out of stone, don’t you?”

Gordon: …

Did he really think he was funny?

There was a massive bookshelf in Gordon’s bedroom, filled with the books he liked to read. As Skyler was packing up the shelves, he spotted a familiar title and pulled it out. “Uncle, can I borrow this for a couple of days?”

“Sure.”

Skyler continued, “Every time I come over, you’re reading *Strolling Down Wall Street*. I’ve never read it myself. I’ll try to finish it tonight.”

Wait—what did Skyler just say?

Gordon turned around and saw Skyler holding *Strolling Down Wall Street* in his hands.
