Celia nodded. "Did you and Joie go out today?"
"We did."
"Did you have fun?"
"It was wonderful," Jennifer replied. "Miss Palmer, the guide you hired was fantastic."
"I'm glad to hear it." Celia linked her arm through Caitlin's. "Freya and I are heading back to the room. On your way down, could you ask the concierge to send up some tea and pastries?"
"Of course, Miss Palmer." Jennifer nodded, stepping into the elevator and pressing the button to close the doors.
As she watched Celia and Caitlin walk away, Jennifer let out a quiet sigh of relief.
That was close.
Thank goodness Celia hadn't noticed anything unusual.
Just as the doors were closing, Caitlin seemed to sense something. She glanced back, her eyes meeting Jennifer's.
Jennifer hadn't expected the sudden look and was instantly on edge again, guilt flooding her.
Caitlin's gaze was light, almost casual, yet it made Jennifer feel as if she were being pierced through, as if some dark, hidden part of her was being dragged into the light. It was suffocating.
*Ding.*
The elevator doors slid shut.
Jennifer sagged against the wall, her strength gone, gasping for air.
Terrifying.
Caitlin's eyes were terrifying.
Outside the elevator, Celia noticed Caitlin's backward glance. "Freya, what are you looking at?"
"Nothing," Caitlin replied. "I just thought Jennifer seemed a bit odd today."
"Odd? How so?" Celia looked toward the closed elevator doors. "Doesn't she always seem that way?"
She hadn't noticed anything out of the ordinary.
"I don't know," Caitlin said thoughtfully. "It felt like she was hiding something."
As if she had a guilty conscience.
"Hiding something?" Celia brushed it off, tugging on Caitlin's arm. "Freya, you must be mistaken. Come on, let's go chat! I want to hear more about the White Wind monsters!"
The White Wind was a creature said to appear in blizzards. Caitlin had mentioned it once, and Celia, fascinated by the legend, was eager to learn more.
---
After leaving the elevator, Jennifer hailed a cab and rushed to her meeting point with Griffin.
Griffin was already there.
Seeing Jennifer approach, Griffin stood up excitedly. "Miss Jennifer, did you get the prescription?"
