Soon, a long ladder was lowered from the helicopter, and five people jumped down. As they got closer, Reid's nerves were on edge, feeling more danger than with the first group they met. "Are you with the Lancaster family?" the first man asked politely as he approached Reid.
Reid took in the sight of the man before him; he seemed well-mannered and was quite young, likely no older than twenty-seven or twenty-eight. He wore a friendly smile, appearing completely non-threatening. At that moment, Reid remembered the call he had made to Miss Mirabella earlier. She mentioned someone would come to help them—could she have meant this group?
Arriving in a combat helicopter—that was Miss Mirabella’s doing? Reid felt like the world had gone a bit surreal. He stood there, momentarily stunned, before nodding, "And you are?"
"My name is Toby Jenkins," the man introduced himself simply. His gaze shifted to Dan, who was leaning against the car, and he added apologetically, "Sorry we were a bit late. We have a doctor on board. Let's get your injured friends on the plane for some quick treatment."
As Toby spoke, he efficiently directed his team to carry Dan and the other injured men onto the helicopter. The movements were swift, and Reid, still in a bit of a daze, found himself seated on the helicopter.
"Don't worry, except for Mr. Douglas, who is seriously injured, the others are fine," Toby assured Reid from across the seat. Reid nodded, expressing his gratitude again, "Thank you, Mr. Jenkins."
"No need to thank me; we're all on the same side," Toby replied with a slight nod. Hearing Toby's friendly words, Reid once again found himself a bit confused.
