Faced with Dan's shock, Reid kept his composure, acting as if he had all the inside info, never letting on that he was just as in the dark. "Did you really think Miss Mira was completely helpless?"

Dan studied Reid’s face for a bit before he coughed and confessed, "Honestly, I heard Miss Mira wasn't all that capable..."

Dan thought back to his brief encounter with Mirabella a few days ago, which definitely didn’t match the elders' tales about her. At the very least, she wasn’t the arrogant and rude person they painted her to be.

"Guess I was a bit biased," Dan admitted with a wry grin, feeling the sharp twinges of his abdominal wound. He shut his eyes, worrying about the contract signing scheduled for tomorrow. "I’m worried my condition might mess up the signing tomorrow."

With these thoughts swirling, Dan turned to Reid. "Reid, mind if I borrow your phone? I need to call someone to cover my duties."

Dan made a bunch of calls to several elders, but when none gave a positive response, he tried a couple of stewards he got along with, only to be turned down yet again.
