The Double or more Life of the Fake Heiress (Mirabella) novel Chapter 1902

Thinking about Mirabella's mentor, Paxton felt like a firecracker had just gone off in his head. His gaze snapped back to Maverick.

The face was unfamiliar, but the demeanor? Unmistakable.

"You, you are..." Paxton's eyes nearly popped out of his head, his mouth open but unable to form words.

Maverick didn’t flinch. The corners of his lips curled into a mysterious, knowing smile, like he could read Paxton’s mind.

Without saying a word, he walked over to the stone altar behind Paxton.

On the other sides of the altar were three other elders of the clan, guardians who had chosen a life of seclusion. Right now, their eyes were shut tight, arms dangling by their sides, their faces as pale as ghosts, clearly unconscious for a while now.

Maverick didn’t even glance at them; his eyes were glued to the altar.

The altar was black, its surface rough with shallow, intricate patterns now filling with red lines, slowly inching towards a central circular groove. It was downright eerie.

Maverick stood there for what felt like forever, a change finally flickering in his eyes.

From where Paxton stood, he couldn’t see the obsessive madness that had taken over Maverick’s once calm gaze.

Twenty years—it was all unfolding exactly as he’d planned. How could it not? Maverick thought with a cold smirk.

Just then, someone rushed into the room, whispering urgently in Maverick's ear.

Maverick’s eyebrows twitched before he turned his head towards the entrance.

A muffled thud came from outside, like something heavy hitting the ground. As the sound faded, Mirabella appeared at the doorway.
