But now, Kayla was no longer the naive girl shackled by family ties. The warmth in her heart had long frozen

over.

The more Kayla thought about her tragic past life, the harder she pressed down with the scissors, as if she could carve all her rage and betrayal straight into Tristian’s skull.

Tristian’s face twisted in pain, the handsome features contorted and ugly. He clutched his obsidian bracelet so tight that his knuckles turned white. Beneath the searing pain, a deeper humiliation boiled.

As the heir to the Sexton family, Tristian had never been treated like this. Let alone by Kayla, the girl who used to tiptoe around him, terrified of his anger, desperate to please him.

Shit! I really underestimated her,Tristian thought bitterly.

It didn’t take long before his perfectly styled hair was completely ruined. It was cropped unevenly, hacked in chunks, soaked with blood in some places, looking like a total disaster.

From the side, the overlapping cuts and the red smears almost looked like the word jerk.

Kayla tilted her head, clearly pleased, a wicked grin curling across her lips. Her dark eyes locked onto him, glittering with amusement.

She raised the scissors and gently tapped them against Tristian’s cheek, leaving a smear of blood across his onceflawless face.

She smiled, Tris, this new look really suits you. You should be thanking me.”

Her gaze dropped to the bracelet still clutched in his hand. Thinking of the history of the bracelet, Kayla narrowed her eyes.

Without a word, she lifted the scissors and snipped the cord clean in one fluid motion.

The polished black beads were scattered across the floor, bouncing and clattering in all directions. The sound was crisp, chaotic, and oddly satisfyingjust like Tristian’s unraveling.

As the beads disappeared into the shadows under the furniture, Tristian’s expression twisted with pure fury. His jaw clenched, and he let out a growl. KAYLA.

Kayla released him at once. She picked up a tissue and gracefully wiped the blood off the scissors. Then, she tossed the tissue on the table and said, You lose your temper way too easily, Tris. Just anyone’s words could sow discord between us, huh?

Honestly, Tris, are you really the levelheaded, brilliant heir everyone says you are? Seems like you’re just another idiot.” She glanced at the ruined bracelet and added, Trash like you doesn’t deserve my gifts. So I destroyed it.”

That bracelet had cost Kayla a small fortunehandpicked in his favorite color, meant to bring him luck.

Thinking about it now made her want to laugh. Someone like him didn’t deserve her blessing.

Kayla gave a cheerful smile. Well, I’m done playing with you for today. I’m heading upstairs. Nighty night,

Tris.

Her smile was as innocent as ever. But just minutes ago, she’d pinned him down and butchered his pride like it meant nothing. The contrast chilled Tristian to his core.

As Kayla turned to leave, Tristian suddenly lunged to his feet, snatched the scissors off the table, and charged at her with a roar. DAMN YOU. GO TO HELL
