Everyone stiffened at the sight of her. They no longer dared to act recklessly. They wanted the money, yes, but if it turned into a public brawl, the school’s punishment would fall on them.

And with Ravenna being Kayla’s homeroom teacher, helping Kayla was one thing, but openly going against. her was another.

Ravenna caught every flicker of hesitation and fear on their faces. She tugged at her hat brim and cursed under her breath.

She had only come because she heard Hailey was targeting Kayla. She wanted to see the spectacle, to see what kind of downfall awaited this troublemaker who never showed respect to her teachers.

Ravenna had not expected Kayla to notice her at all. She had hidden herself so carefully, standing far enough away, yet still the girl had spotted her.

Ravenna thought, That girl really is a thorn in my side. But so what if she saw me? After defying me in front of the whole class, does she really think I would help her now?

With a shrug of indifference, she said, Kayla, it’s not that I don’t want to help, but you’ve been reckless and ruined the school’s reputation.

Your classmates are only angry because of that. Just do as they ask, apologize, and let them get it out of their system. Then this will be over.

Kayla had already expected as much. Ravenna’s words barely stirred her. If the woman had intended to intervene, she would not have spent all this time watching from the sidelines.

The only thought that settled in Kayla’s mind was that Ravenna had proven herself unworthy of being a teacher.

Hailey and the others brightened at those words. She wondered, Ms. Nielsen isn’t stopping us? Then what’s left to hold us back?

With that thought, Hailey raised her brows, her mood soaring as she let out a laugh. Kayla, you’ve only got yourself to blame. Even Ms. Nielsen thinks you deserve a lesson, so don’t say I’m the one at fault.”

As soon as the words left her mouth, she waved her hand, and the girls who had hesitated earlier charged át Kayla again.

Kayla stepped back quickly. She knew better than to fight headon when they had the numbers. She was about to bolt, planning to hold out until the police arrived.

She wondered, What’s taking the police so long? Didn’t they say they were already on the way? Why aren’t they here yet?

But just as Kayla turned, she met Davon and Marianna’s mocking stares. Both of them blocked her escape.

Kayla muttered inwardly, Damn it. So they really want to force my hand.’
