The Heiress Chooses Madness novel Chapter 183

Chapter 183

Kayla didn’t beat around the bush. Jackson’s been screwing his secretary. A few weeks ago, my mom almost died in a car accident. I think-

She paused, her jaw tightening. I think Jackson arranged it. He wanted her dead.

Her eyes went cold as she said it.

Ever since that latenight conversation with Bailee, Kayla had been haunted by suspicions about Bailee’s accidentaldeath in her previous life.

Then there was that confrontation with Jacksonwhen she’d exposed Tristian for secretly funding Marianna. Jackson hadn’t even blinked and hadn’t said a word to Tristian. It was like he’d known all along.

Something’s not right here, she’d thought then. And the more she turned it over in her mind, the worse it looked.

So she’d hired a private investigator to dig into Marianna’s background.

What came back knocked the wind out of her. Marianna’s mom, Ruby, had landed a job at Sexton Group as Jackson’s secretary. And Ruby and Jackson were really cozy.

Kayla knew Rubyof course she did.

In Kayla’s past life, Jackson had married Ruby less than six months after Bailee died. That was when Kayla found out Ruby was Marianna’s mother.

Back then, Kayla thought Jackson had only met Ruby after he started dating Marianna.

But it was obvious Jackson and Ruby had known each other way longer than that.

Kayla had hired a private investigator to dig into Ruby’s background. Ruby only had an associate’s degree from a community college.

At her age, with that kind of education, there was no way she should’ve gotten through Sexton Group’s doors -let alone become Jackson’s secretary.

Everyone in Jackson’s secretarial office had either a master’s degree from a top domestic university or a degree from some prestigious school abroad. Ruby’s credentials were so far below the bar that it was almost embarrassing.

And yet, Ruby hadn’t just gotten into Sexton Groupshe’d landed right next to Jackson as his personal secretary. That didn’t add up.

When Kayla pushed the PI to dig deeper, things got even weirder. Ruby was a single mom. And her husband was a ghost; there was not a single trace of him anywhere.

All they found was that Ruby had once had a childhood sweetheart. But at some point, he just disappeared. No one knew where he’d gone.

Something about this whole thing felt off, but Kayla couldn’t quite put her finger on it.

Still, she didn’t dare push any further. The last thing she needed was to tip someone off and make things.

worse.

But she wasn’t about to let Bailee get caught in the crossfire either. That was why she went to Caleb for help.

With Caleb’s family background and connections, tracking down the truth would be a hell of a lot easier than anything she could manage on her ownno power, no experience, nothing.

And if things got ugly, Caleb had the muscle to keep Bailee safe.

When Caleb heard what Kayla said, his face darkened instantly.
