In her old life, Kayla could never understand why, despite how good she had been to Davon, he had hurt her so recklessly for Marianna. It wasn’t until much later that Kayla learned the truth.

Davon’s father was a man with no power or influence who had married a wealthy heiress. He then had an affair with Davon’s mother. After Davon was exposed as an illegitimate child, the Ortiz family cut off all financial support for him and his mother.

Davon, deeply insecure about his identity as an illegitimate child, fell into extreme pain and despair.

One day, while out alone, Davon encountered Marianna in the park, where she was conducting a survey.

Marianna asked Davon, already aware of his background, to fill out the survey, handing him a lollipop as she smiled sweetly at him.

To Davon, Marianna was like a ray of sunshine, cutting through the filth and insecurity of his life. She brought a little sweetness into his bitter world.

Later, Marianna transferred to Davon’s school, and the moment he saw her, Davon recognized her immediately.

As they spent more time together, Davon was charmed by Marianna’s warmth, sweetness, and her perseverance despite being poor. He couldn’t help but fall for her.

Even when Marianna falsely accused Kayla of bullying, Davon, without hesitation, believed in Marianna, whose tragic background and drive to succeed seemed flawless in his eyes.

But because Davon’s family relied on the Sexton family for support, he couldn’t openly turn against Kayla. Instead, he pretended to be gentle with her while repeatedly speaking of Marianna’s hardships, warning Kayla not to bully her.

Behind Kayla’s back, Davon even teamed up with Marianna to trap Kayla over and over, ultimately driving her to the point of being betrayed by everyone, horribly disfigured, and spiraling deeper into despair.

As Kayla thought about this, her eyes were filled with fury. She thought, ‘Marianna’s lollipop made Davon so grateful, but all the money I spent on him and the expensive gifts I gave him mean nothing to him?”

For a moment, Kayla’s gaze toward Davon was filled with disgust. She coldly snapped, “Piss off.”

In her previous life, Davon had taken advantage of Kayla’s love for him, hurting her without hesitation. Now, in Kayla’s eyes, Davon was nothing but a scumbag. She would never again give him the chance to hurt her.

Davon froze for a moment, his expression stiffening. After a long pause, he forced a smile and reached out to grab Kayla’s arm. “Kay, what’s wrong? Who upset you? Why are you so angry?”

Kayla didn’t hesitate for a second. She shook off Davon’s hand, then slapped him hard across the face, Wiping her hand on her sleeve, she looked at him with disgust and said, “Don’t touch me, you lowlife.”

Davon stood frozen from the blow, a red handprint already blooming on his cheek. He instinctively glanced around at the students who were watching, and the smile on his face faded.

His expression hardened as he scolded her in a low voice, “Kayla, are you out of your mind? What nonsense are you saying?”

Kayla raised her chin, giving him a mocking look, her smile barely there. “Am I wrong? You’re the illegitimate child of a mistress who ruined someone else’s marriage. Doesn’t that make you a lowlife? So don’t come near me again. You disgust me.”

At that, the students around them gasped in shock. They all stared at Davon, stunned by the revelation that the usually proud Davon was actually an illegitimate child. Whispers and murmurs started to spread through the crowd.

“Davon is an illegitimate child? No way. Is that true?”

“I thought he was the Ortiz family heir. He’s always being chauffeured around, wearing designer clothes. All his stuff is top–tier luxury brands. How could he be an illegitimate child?”

“I know, right? Davon always acts so high and mighty. Who would’ve thought he’s a lovechild? What’s so special about an illegitimate child?”

“It’s disgusting that he tries to act all dignified. He really makes me sick.”

“Yeah. How can the school allow someone like him to study with us? Aren’t they worried he’ll ruin the school’s reputation?”

Davon’s face turned grim, and he gritted his teeth. “Kayla, are you crazy?” He thought, ‘How dare she do this? How dare she expose my background like this?‘

Kayla crossed her arms, looking at him with a smile that didn’t reach her eyes, enjoying the frustration and humiliation written all over his face after the revelation of his background.

Kayla then spoke, “I am crazy. That’s the only reason I ever let an illegitimate child like you manipulate me before. So for my own good, do me a favor and stay the hell away from me, okay?”

The bell rang for class, and Kayla, not wanting to deal with the gloomy expression on Davon’s face any longer, tried to walk past him and into the classroom.

But then Davon grabbed her arm. “Wait.”

Kayla immediately yanked her arm out of his grip, cold fury radiating from her. “Am I being too nice to you? Is that why you think you can ignore what I said? I told you not to touch me. You disgust me.”

Davon reached out again, intending to grab Kayla’s arm, but he hesitated halfway, pulling his hand back. His expression soured as he said, “Kayla, I don’t know what’s gotten into you, but you’ve gone way too far today.”

Kayla had expected Davon to be angry, but instead, he stepped closer to her. In a lowered, condescending voice, he muttered, “Give me fifteen thousand dollars. I need it now. If you do that, I’ll forgive you for today’s little stunt.”

Kayla was so enraged that she almost laughed. ‘So, this whole time, Davon’s been waiting for me here for money, she thought.
